Here's what the Catapult damage textures looked like, it's an image from an old PA Report article about how complex the process to make a 'mech is. The article is sadly no longer available, but I managed to save the images.

Positive attitude, high hopes and enthusiasm the playerbase had. Gameplay wise nothing. Started out as free player in cb and after reset on ob. If you think new player experience is bad now... Man, you have no clue what sort of diabolical suffering went on in 2012...

and on a side note, Missile mechanics were way better with the flight pattern. And everyone had AMS back then.

Anyone still knows when XL engines where introduced? was that with DHS or prior to that?

I won't really be playing any more only now an then until I see a change back towards the old days of things like. Role warfare , slower paced combat , better graphics , sounds ETC right now it feels very arcade like and just does not grip me like it use to in CB.

One of the reasons the stock group desperately want a no-quirk stock private game mode back. Quirks killed stock mech monday, and that was the last vestige of tactical gameplay this game had.

*whispers* they were there from the beginning but you had to be good enough to earn beyond the repair and rearm costs to buy them.

I miss being good with light mechs - when everything was built on SHS and people flinging 60dmg alphas around turned into perfectly immobile c-bill piniatas in an instant :D

Was rocking my Commando (2 ML & 2 SRM2) just fine even before ECM. Although i don´t think i played during the lurm of death times (definately don´t miss the lurm of death).

Bought some Firestarters recently to relive some of the old light glory, and it´s been a struggle!

(Yes, the total reads "7" heatsinks. This is before the mandatory 10 heatsink requirement).

Not your armor/structure, your equipment. Heatsinks would melt. Ammo would fry. Weapons would break down.


Just watching this reminds me so much of why is signed up for it. It played , sounded and looked like mechwarrior however in today's version , yea the bugs and broken bits are gone but so is the original feel and immersion. If I had a choice I would take the closed Beta with its bugs ironed out.

Speaking of R&R...the enemy could rack up your repair bill if he damaged your wreckage. Remember that? It was the ultimate form of teabagging.

Don't forget the old sounds. God, this game just looked and sounded so much better back then. This is the video that really sold me on this game.

I miss the old legging animation. Where once your leg was destroyed or critted, your mech would start to limp from your perspective, throwing the aim around.

The old sound effects. Always like the bark of the OG AC-20.

The slower gameplay.

Definitely the inverse kinematics. Made this game look soooooo good.

I miss from the start of closed beta that MWO was really going to be the new improved MechWarrior4 Mercenaries or MechWarrior5 with a true MSN gamming Lobby system and Leagues.

But that hope faded fast and I realized MWO was only going to become a shallow FPS with repetitive game play for 3+ years and them trying to make this once great IP into a lousy E-sport/MOBA.

Pre-slingshot mechanic Gauss rifles, until the combo off poptarting+PPC+gauss created mass hysteria and hatred towards the weapon (but higher alpha laser vomit is all good :rolleyes:.)

Playerbase that was enthusiatc, hopeful, and still had hopes of good things to come (and not an avalanche of mech packs.) <_<
