I recent bought Pirates Bane Hero Mech. I'm not a huge fan of lights but I had tons of fun with Ember and Huggin, I also loved my 3L so I though PB is cheap enough so I took the plunge and bought it. I ran this Mech with 4 Med Lazors and it was ok I guess. So I decided to roll with the quirks and refit with 2 MG's and 4 Sm Lazors. I also bought range and cool down mods and the Mech skill tree is maxed. Well what a pile of Bantha do do. I turned a fair dogger Mech (IMO only as I still suck with lights) into a complete pile of steaming runny bottom excretion.

I have come to the conclusion that if you dont boat a minimum of 6 (tested with 1 of my Firestarters and even with 6 it was almost a waste of time) then don't bother with them at all.

This is not a rant thread even though it looks like one lol, I still love the game and I have playing religiously for over 2 years now but Sm Lazors when mounted on this Mech is like someone has just done a Cleveland Steamer on the PB (they may work on other platforms just not this one).

Again this is only my opinion and I don't mean to offend anyone with it. I like light Mechs (bought the $20 Urbi package a few weeks ago and own Ember and Huggin) but just not PB as the quirks for this Mech feel like an April Fools joke that stuck. I also have huge respect for the people who can pilot any light Mech with skill, I just felt the need to express my opinion so please no haters.

Well, they are only a half-ton. You can boat'em on Locusts, and with a couple modules, they do decently enough. One of my favorite locust builds is 3 SPL, 2 SL, with dual AMS. Fast, useful, and still packs a punch a close-range.

You can also boat'em on the one Locust with 6 energy points and still squeeze in a Standard engine. I've had a few people curse me out in games because they thought I was hacking when my Locust lost its shoulder and didn't die.

Sm Lazors when mounted with other weapons do give a bit of extra short range DPS for low tonnage but with just 4 its a total waste of time lol

Mhm. Those deal the same damage as IS medium lasers at less heat and half the tonnage, with the only downside being slightly lower range.

Yes. 3 damage per small is pathetic damage compared to Clan smalls which do 5 damage at 2/3 range of the IS medium.

Not really worthwhile unless you can boat alot of them.

They are good however when complemented with MG's, a combination I even use on heavier mechs.

I put 4 Smalls with 4 MG's on Ember just for S**t's and Giggles and found it mediocre at best.

Almost every mech you see in MWO carries twice as much firepower as its stock mech equivalent. But if you equip small lasers, you don't have enough hardpoints to get the same amount of weapons. A RVN-2X can carry 15 tons of large lasers (27 dmg, 450 meter range, plus quirks), and only 2 tons of small lasers (12 dmg, 90 meter range, plus quirks), at most.

It's one of the unfortunate effect of having a hardpoint system without sized hardpoints. Every energy weapon hardpoint can potentially be used to carry an LPL or PPC, every ballistic hardpoint can be used to carry AC20's or gauss.

As I'm a Big gunner... I do not see a problem with this!

Was it MW3 that had the simple, sized hardpoints? That stopped you mounting over sized weapons on smaller mechs. Why didn't they just use something similar to that?

Makes sense, but i guess it will only limit AC20/LRM20troll builds on Ravens.

Well, the bane is a terrible mech, and you shouldn't use small lasers on it. Use mediums instead.

IS small lasers are terrible, 1 medium is better than 2 smalls.
