Are we finally going to get some new trees with the "new" mech rebalance coming or is that something that is once again put on the back burner? Arm move speed as a default on all mechs even if their weapons aren't on the arms is still silly and getting a new mech just feels so sluggish till you get the 2x bonuses for mobility. This has been talked about since closed beta and I was just wondering if it's still up to get redone now that they are supposedly making legitimate role warfare a thing finally with the rebalance and the trees would be a good way to advance that.

Soon™.

Seriously though, I'd like this addressed, but PGI's short range/term focus is on Steam and not much else I'm afraid.

There's been a lot of talk and Ideas about this from the devs in the past - I recall the last was along the lines of a command post that talked about specific abilities to be unlocked for each chassis, that were specific to mech classes.

Heavies and assaults for example, were going to have a charge attack that could knock down enemies.

It wasn't fleshed out past that though, because the usual forum factions chose it as a battleground to push their own agendas, and the thread ended up looking like a mad max set. Overturned cars, fires in barrels, people hissing at each other instead of talking...

I recall PGI saying that they were working on... something... recently, but I'd guess that they'll keep tight lipped until they have a full proposal to avoid the usual explosions.

We do need something though, preferably long enough before steam release to be tested and tweaked. Stuff like the useless convergence perk annoys me - we need to get rid of every placeholder like that before Steam.

It's been years and PGI hasn't done anything, so no.

I was thinking that it would be beneficial for them to address it before a Steam release, instead of them overhauling it after and the mess that would make. Unless they launch as is and push it way back to prevent making any ripples.

Sneek peek at the new skill tree. This is totally real. Seriously. Not making it up. I was at a meeting at PGI and like totally stole this, but Russ said it was okay and told me to post it.

You'd think they would have at least replaced "Pinpoint" with a skill that does something by now.

I don't recall any statements like that. Do you have a link?

Anyone else here wish the whole skill tree system could just go burn and die?

I suppose this is just my opinion, but un-leveled mechs always feel much heavier, especially in the torso-twisting area, and then once you elite them, they get almost twitchy. It's quite a departure from the gameplay of past Mechwarrior titles, and personally I greatly dislike it, mainly because it just doesn't feel like a Mechwarrior game.

I suppose a skill tree work would be better than nothing, though. I certainly can appreciate the progression element that the system brings.. I just wish it didn't break the immersive feel of the mechs.

They should, but there's no indication that PGI will do anything other than make vague promises and never work on it.

I think the game would improve if the skill tree was just gone.

I have over 800K of useless XP laying around on my four favourite mechs alone(Flame, Atlas DDC, Thunderwub 5SS and Cicada X5).

I can't convert these to GXP too since i have all the modules unlocked.

I'd like some new skills, yup.

Edit: it was way more than 250K

Hoped not thought. Cause it would be wicked disappointing if Fruity Loops sampled horns were what we could expect from such things

"Placeholder" has no meaning for PGI though. I wouldn't be surprised if they replaced the 'convergence' skill with the 'extra hitpoints to weapons' skill Paul mentioned and then declared that they've finally completed the final stage of the skill tree. We've had placeholder maps and placeholder game modes and placeholder UI for so long.

I've given up waiting for things like this. Maybe the new Battletech game will have some RPG and rolewarfare elements.

getting "usable" +10% speed is forced now with 3 chassis.
this must go.
