I get that you're slow, but when an Atlas keeps pace with the team and you don't... it's your problem not the teams.

What if the Atlas has 350 engine and I am a Whale?

if you are in an assault the first thing you should do as soon as systems go nominal is jam your throttle. dont even check the battlegrid just aim for the barycenter of all friendly mechs on the minimap. being slow you have plenty of time to plan your positioning once the enemy location is known (of course that requires lights to be doing their job too). however as an assault inaction pretty much translates to instant death.

That is true SOME of the times, yes.
Being the nice team player I am, I always wait for assaults (at least at the start *cough*), to provide ECM etc.
Every now and then, I see a fat ass 100tonner walking a little, standing still, looking, thinking, walking a little...
No wonder he falls short with an average speed of like ... 10kph.
However the truth also is that MOST of the time, faster Mechs (including, uhm, me sometimes) actually race away from the fatties without the assault's faults.

They should be escorting the assaults and playing interference.
But with troll mechs like ACH with their epic lagshield it gives a false sense of security and most of the time I see them just hit the gas sprinting ahead on a suicide mission, alone right into the enemy team and taking their ECM with them.
Usually all it takes is 1 ECm light to lead the way, and everyone else joins on his fail trail.
They either die horribly vs an entire enemy lance, or get beat up to the point where they're completely useless beyond that.
I've done it plenty myself, not going to lie.
But when I see 1,2,3 lights dead in the first few minutes of a game that little 30-60 damage isn't going to mean anything
It does however make it just that much harder to deal with the enemy's lights when its our turn.
So if you're going to play a light, try watching out for the guys in the back once in a while?

I don't know how this sounds in english, but it's an old and solid tip in the army.

Nah, that is the main body's job. Lights need to be harassing and getting the enemy to squirrel to relieve pressure on the main body and assaults.

What blew me away was a match recently where a lance complained ( 4 minutes into the match) "thanks for leaving us behind to die losers!" When I checked the lance it wasn't even assaults, it was heavies... Two TBRs... Hello, if you can't link up with the team in heavies thats mostly on you.

First off, it's absolutely not the light's job to escort anyone. That can be done with way less speed sacrifice by mediums and heavies.
Secondly, the ACH has a lagshield? LOL. Very favourable hitboxes, sure, clan XL, yes, but lagshield? Don't be ridiculous.

Might want to rethink that, as the squirrel should be chased by the cat...

Lights have one advantage - speed. Chaining them to the slowest unit on the team is... well, not that bright.
Escort duty is traditionally the role of the medium, not the light.

Deserves defeat.
The whale you save in the beginning might be the whale that wins the match.
Stop playing like this is COD.
It's not.
