I'm Looking Forward To Steam

More players means the game stays!
It's simple economics really.
I only hope new players don't burn through their cadet money and that they buy light mechs at first.
That's how I did it.
If you screw up a light mech build, then it's easy to re-build it.
Just don't sell the mech nor the engine!
Get an XL engine asap, and elite the mech.
I currently grind my c-bills, but I do buy MC's for {LT-MOB-25}-pit items (Spinny Liao holo-gram, funny sighing liao war-horn noise and green paint with squiggly writing on my Zeus) and camo and paint.
It's just the way I think. I like to earn my combat situation, but like a "pretty mech" to play in.
Anyway, bring steam on, let the developers and staff pay off their mortagages, buy nice cars and take their children on nice holidays!
Why would anyone begrudge them - or you - the ability to do that?

So, as currently constituted, MWO would get pummeled quickly and that's the deathblow it takes for a game to "go down".

if new players come in and just get butt ****** they're not going to want to touch this game. If not done right it will actually hurt the game.
PGI's mentality of **** it we'll just release. Is what bought them a terrible review on metacritics. That stuff stays with the game. Its a permanent record
Any time you google mechwarrior online the review score will pop up on the right. No matter how much money spent on PR and marketing won't undo that

Sure it will bring in new players but those said new players will tear this game a new one if some things aren't changed.

I agree, and I think the game needs an over-haul in a lot of places, such as the inability to reset and go again with cadet bonuses.
After all, when you know what you are doing, you don't reallly want a reset...
Could you imagine, having 8 mech bays, a Battle-master, Quick-draw, Locust, Hunch-back, Jenner and Enforcer and resetting back to nothing?

MWO exists because we're a die-hard Battletech crowd. Once this reaches Steam and those negative reviews are in (and they will come in, you know how that goes) you can kiss new players goodbye.

I did some beta on this game, and the game is nothing like beta...in fact the game has changed immensely...why?
Because of you...yes...YOU, and me, and him, and him, and her, and him, and...
See what I'm getting at?
All of us have already changed the game anyway!
Now, I'm not being rude, and I hope it doesn't come across as such, but your propostion is summed up here...

Apologies if I seem to be digging at you, but I'm into metaphysics, and thus I find this interesting.

Well its a two way street, if the metacritic score is correct then it reflects on Mechwarrior Online, if it is incorrect then its reflects on metacritic and its accuracy....

Yet here we are, talking on the MWO forum.
Surely the worst that could happen is that all steam users refuse to play...in which case we are back as we are now!

Metacritic is just a collection of all scores from every review site. Its hard to say that metacritic itself is wrong. You might try to say all of the reviews it collects is wrong

Might and Magic legacy was massively slated. I bought and completed that too!
That reminds me, I really must buy Grimrock 2.
Actually, so was Quake-wars, STROOGGGGG!

CW has to get better and lose it's "skirmish match with 4 mechs" title.
Other than the goodies you get from ranking up in a faction/clan, what is the point of fighting for anyone and conquer/hold planets? Yes I realize CW Beta 3 is on it's way but so far, we don't know that much other than "Soon TM".
The NPE, new player experience is, horrible, at best and horrible at worst. Tutorial is barely non-existant and MM is nothing short of brutal. I can give up that MM can get better with more players but that's only supposition.
I know this won't change but the real money pricing model for this game is fairly expensive for what little you really get.
Some people won't care and other will and the predictable "Game is P2W" reviews can be seen a mile away.
Yes, I do realize this game is not P2W but "pay for earlier access".
Trial mechs have gotten much better since the last patch but as of right now, the clan ones are still horrible pieces of garbage in most cases.
I don,t really consider "steam will be a double edge sword" a straw man's argument. If this game got released on steam tomorrow, it would get torn apart.

My comment was about accuracy which is valid. It is either accurate in this situation or it isnt. No big deal really.

Wrong. Tons of bad reviews on Steam will wreck any chance of the game picking up new players in the future, whether through Steam or not. They have to fix the game FIRST so the reviews will at least be half decent. They shouldn't put the cart before the horse or be penny-wise but pound-foolish. Recovering from a bad rep in online gaming is next to impossible. At least now MWO isn't well-known so it doesn't have a rep with the world at large yet.

Less than half-way decent arguments are not going to convince the game developers to throw away the only chance the game has to flourish while putting their only source of income under the guillotine.
You don't understand. We are not going to come back to the square one/status quo in terms of new players coming in if this game fails in Steam. No, if MWO gets released on Steam then all those potential new players are going to read the reviews made by Steam players, who had a high chance of playing MWO wrong then blaming it on the game and/or not giving it the dedication it needs due to grind and learning curve to get to where they are having fun with it (aka horrible newb experience).
So MWO entering Steam at the moment is a death wish, and this thread is stupid.

Steam is one avenue of advertising is what it amounts to. Although being a little bit dramatic you have a point.
