That's right, every time Kenny plays MechWarrior Online, the MechLab causes his eyes to explode and kill him. Every time. Why? Because all of the equipment list can't be sorted Alphabetically. That's right, death by random list sorting. I wouldn't wish this sort of thing on an enemy.

Alphabetical sorting is Lostech.

none of your selections are saved at this point.
plenty of work to be done.

I thought I heard PGI was aware of this and that it would be fixed in an upcoming patch.

It's not related to selection saving. The sorting by name column currently doesn't sort properly at all.
You can see this in action in the consumable section.. as unchecking and checking auto-rebuy will have all the modules "resort" in all random ways.
I mean... it's minimally viable sorting.

It's also impossible to sort engines by rating.

Huh, never learned that one in over thirty years of programming... Is that a PGI proprietary algorithm?
Seriously PGI. Even if you only had a single, fresh-out-of-school dev he should have been able to get the sorting right by now. I can only chalk it up to incompetence in whoever is giving that dev his priorities/task lists.
Here's some free advice from an old hand: As a programmer, you generally should have at least two task queues; one with the big ticket items (you know, the ones your manager is constantly asking about when they're going to be done), and one with the low-hanging fruit that you can bang out when you're stuck on one of the big ticket items, or just need a break from them. Small, half-a-day or less tasks that needs to be done but can't really be prioritized above the big-ticket items.
That way, your low-hanging fruit doesn't get sorted to the bottom of the pile every time you re-sort (Hey! Sorting again? In what order?) your tasks.
Yes, there are a lot of other, bigger, more important tasks to be done - but there is such a huge pile of small, easy fixes that you need to dig into that pile as well; and it is good for the dev (it's nice for morale to get stuff done, checked in, and finished), it is good for the patch notes (more fixes = happier customers), and it is good for the game to do so.
Please don't ignore the little things.

Some dev at PGI is sad now because people don't like his minigame called "find the things you want in the randomly sorted lists".

Funny thing is, the current problem with the select screen not storing your filter selection bothers me less than this, because they have acknowledged that issue and said they're fixing it the next patch. Totally cool with them being up front about that. But why haven't they been that cool with this? It's been this way for over a month.
