We already have metrics to gauge how bad someone is, if they whine about LRMs.
That being said, it'd be nice to have a system so that these people whom after 3 years still can't play, actually have a number telling them how bad they are, maybe they'll actually at last start learning how to play..or just uninstall.

The whole, "T1's will discredit T4/T5's opinions," is a double edged sword, and any potential negatives from that segregation have already been happening. People just haven't realized it and/or have selectively ignored it. Why? Because we're a small community. We know who the T1 players are. Most of them don't post on the forum, but the ones that do we already subconsciously give their opinion more attention than unknown scrub #5 with 2 posts who downloaded the game yesterday.
Will the scenario above happen? Yes
Will it happen very often? No
It's simply a risk assessment. Does the risk of a rare elitist remark from a T1 ignoring a T4/T5's good idea outweigh the more likely day to day positives of T4/T5s being able to read credible guides written by T1 players? Don't forget that new players that haven't played the game very long don't have any idea who they should take advice from, and while some of those in the lower tiers do have some solid advice, there's also a lot of really bad advice that's counter-intuitive to them progressing as a player.
I personally think new players having the ability to filter that stuff is extremely important.

visible to you means visible to any special site to which you allowed to get the access to that info, there is already a site which can track your w/l and k/d that way... there will be a site to track ratings... and if you don't allow it you will be called pu...y, people care of those ratings more than of w/l and k/d

I've been called worse by people who matter to me. Can't imagine it would bother me much to be called names by the anonymous people of the internet.

I frankly don't care. I win over 50 percent of my games, and have a positive kdr, and I play this game, pretty well hammered most of the time. Wins / Losses 785 / 770 Kill / Death Ratio 1.25
That was good enough to net me second in under 30 games in the Fang, in the hero tournament. (mostly cause I laid off the sauce a lil)
That being said, I can understand why people would want it to remain private.
It can remain an educational tool, to people however, when they get ready to come onto this forum, whine ***** and moan about how X is OP. They can simply look at their stats, realize they do infact suck. And either determine to get better or to keep their mouth shut. Yeah, that's probably a lil optimistic on the last part but I can dream right?
As far as I'm aware however, there isn't any site which tracks those stats other than this one. Other than whoever PGI is selling the info to of course.

MechStats already uses a decent algorithm to rank players using ALL of their available stats, including mech and module use. I don't see many players (read: none at all) criticizing other players for not using it, so there's no reason to suspect that if a separate site (or the same site) begins tracking Tier levels, anything would be different.
A lot of fearmongering and speculation based off of zero historical instances within MWO of any of this ever happening.

Well all you really have to do, to look at the toxic ass hattery that opens things up to, is look at world of tanks with XVM. From my understanding WOT's atmosphere is utterly vitriolic and toxic. I never played WOT but it wouldn't shock me.

yeah that's the site what i meant
but since pgi doesn't even allow to completely close your stats... their #3 would allow you to use a slightly modified mechstats.com, their #1 and #2 allow you to see the stats on the official site... so it doesn't matter what i say
btw i saw how it worked in dota2 pre separate ranked

Numbers and stats are what an individual makes of it.
I see you have 1859 posts, it's displayed right under your name in your last message. What's the purpose of that? Should it matter if you have more? Is it supposed to give people more authority over those who only have 2... or 200?
The potential for measuring e-peen is already here on every post in the forums. Yet I've never seen judge another by the amount of posts they have in any thread I've ever posted in. Does it mean it never happens? No, but using the same analogy people are here about keeping their stats secret, I've never seen rampant threads about keeping post numbers secret.
