it wuld be good to make it public at the beginnign and let us see how it changes in relation to our performance. Simply to give proper feedback if the system has flaws or not.

and that's why it will stay hidden.

People will no longer look at the merits of an argument (like they do now?) but just at the persons placement in the new system. They need to be kept private.

This would remove the most important aspect for me, namely transparency. It means you have no idea what tier your teammates are, or your enemy teammates.

People would still be able to work towards tier 1, which is nice. But I'd like to see the system work first. And if a tidal wave of tears hits Canada, they can let people opt out.

So what? I don't care if they do. I don't need approval from strangers on the internet. If people are rude on the forum, I add them to my 'ignore' list and I move on.

But there always will be people who do, and you should know by now some of the vitriol some players like to spew... ..hence whoever suggested the opt in/opt out idea deserves kudos.

Make it opt in/out

^^this guy :D

Alternatively just list a count of tiered players in each bracket and do not assign them to the players - that way you know what tiers you are with/against - your own tier but you do not have the information to grief other players for their specific tiers.

I know this much... There are going to be some really ticked off epeen measuring tryhards when they find out they are only tier 4. Even moreso if it was made public. Knowledge of one's skill tier could also force some others to butch up... Welllll maybe for others might see their whining and call out their high status. I so hope in a way i turn out to be tier 4.

I also hope that the next stage for this is to use Battle Value as a modifier to your position in matchmaker. Good players with joke builds and vice versa should be taken into account.

It would also be useful to see opposition data in CW for who is defsnding a world for organized units and try to match them accordingly since seal clubbing is so much fun for the majority of players. :::sarcasm:::

But we shall see what comes next.

I don't think PGI's BV system will do what you are saying. It's a way to rate a mech based on hardpoint locations/profile/ things like that, not for what is currently equipped in those hardpoints. If you pull the ECM out of a mech it won't change it's Battle Value. PGI really should have used another name rather than trying to use a pre existing term.

No, just straight out no, this will only enforce self righteous elitist snobs that they are better and there crap doesn't stink.

Get over yourself and learn to have fun than get so self absorbed with stats.

I know myself and many others can be rather good pilots but some nights we fool around, get drunk, play dumb builds, and then are you going to try and tell us since where not being a try hard 100% of the time that we are bads since our ranking bracket slipped while we played for fun?

Get over yourself if they want to provide this info then fine, but keep your nose out of my business and it should be private only.

If you are purposely running bad builds and playing drunk you obviously don't care what tier you are in. So who cares if it is public knowledge or not?

Except that they haven't, ever.

They did once which led to an LRM nerf.

Not really no one had that big of an issue with LRM, it was just annoying waiting the first 5 minutes of a match for everyone to run out of lurms to actually play.

I can't think of any actual (IRL) competitive endeavors where such rankings aren't public, and very few seriously competitive videogames. The only real argument against the tiers being public seems to be 'but people will be jerks!'

I'm gonna let you in on a well known secret: people are already jerks. There's nobody who's a decent person right now who'll be turned into an ******* by public tiers, and nobody who's currently an ******* who'll moderate themselves if you keep them private. More information is better, and what you'll tend to find out (as is the case in other games) is that the biggest screamers are actually mediocre players who can be safely ignored.

I guess the other argument would be that PGI would keep it private to keep any errors/shortcuts on their part from being exposed, but I don't find that argument terribly persuasive. More information is always better.

I agree. I would love the public system as it is like cool titles, something to aspire too.

Just like Ace of Spades (blow my own horn) or Death Star, both are really cool to aim for.

I vote yes as well.

I've seen no valid argument against the idea so far.

Sure. Make it an opt in for the players who really feel like they need it. Its not really as if that will make the matches and better overall. Even a good/great player can have one of those derp rounds where they move around the corner and realise they have found the whole enemy team while simultaniously realising none of them are looking the other way.

Ill probably set mine to visible, as it is not really something I particularily care about... Im expecting mine to be rank 6 or better :P .

P. S. Yes I am aware, that the ranking system starts at 5 as the worst and 1 being the best.

the issue will ofc be on off-peak times when the differecne between the teams will be bigger and you load on to a match only to find that half your team have given up before the match even starts due to magic numbers predicting the future...

Meh! I'm voting to keep them private ... and then cap the hell out of every game as early as I can. The tears will be so delicious, and the nerd rage from the stat-hos so epic. <maniacal   >

I would like to know my own ranking for my own personal knowledge.

I can use it to judge my own performance and not be judged by it.

So, want to see it for myself but like to be able to keep it hidden if I choose to.

What it seems you cannot understand, is that a bad player will still have a bad match score even if he drops together with good player. So, its tier will still be the same.

Why I like this system so much!

All tier movement is player dependent, no more carries!

Win or loose, if the player preforms badly they will stay even if the TEAM wins, go down if the TEAM looses.

Teamwork is vital in PSR and I love it! Good and bad players will be separate.

It's a no from me.

I would like to know for my own curiosity sake, but I could see it being a huge issue on the forums.

Many players on this forum have huge egos (on any forum really), and they also have many opinions. There would be a whole new level of douchebaggery if people knew their tier.

Now, one player's opinion doesn't matter because the differing opinion of s higher tier player must surely carry the most weight.

Not too mention all the "get on my level" comments that would surface. They are here now, but are all unsubstantiated and hearsay.

It just wouldn't add anything useful or productive to the community and I could see it adding additional poison to an already jaded community.

As a longtime WOT player Im voting no. Showing any kind of stats on people will just invite trolling and hurt the game. If you want an example of openview stats just look at the toxic sludge of the WOT forums and ingame chat.

No one has brought this up as well but high tier players will get focused down instead of being able to blend in with the rest of the team. It happens in WOT with artillery constantly harassing purple and blue players throughout a game trying to either kill them or render them ineffective. This happens because they can see their stats. I dont believe that we will get all tier 1 or tier 2 games. Most likely it will be a couple of tier1s and 2s with the rest tier3 and 4. That means those tier1 and tier2 players are going to get focused.

Visible stats also invites trolling and griefing. A good purple player in WOT takes a lot of crap during matches. People attempt to grief or TK them because a purple said bad things to them or killed them easily. Then they take it out on the next purple they see.

No its just a bad idea too show stats. It just invites trolling and griefing and we dont need that.
