So what is the difference to now?
You dont need a number to see if someone is good or bad, just do a few plays with the person.
-----
And for the good/bad player discussion: You cant say that from just a number like the k/d ratio.
If there is really a unit that takes only 2.0 k/d - how do they ever get good light pilots?
Ah ok, in CW you dont use lights anyway, right?
I do not say I am a top player, but I am quite good. But I mostly pilot lights. Means you shoot the armor off of enemies and then an assault arrives and gets the kill.
Also I am only doing PUG. Means no teamstomps or higher rates through 4-man group in solo mode.
And I don't do the cheater weapon - SSRM boats. Or dual gauss dual PPC dires.
I still have a k/d higher then 1, but far away from 2. In fact its barely above 1 at the moment, has gone down with the laser hitting better (killing lights faster) - and especially with the mist lynx and panther I did last. But my assaults and the AC40 Jager are around 1.7, even if I tend to play way too risky with them (used to lights were you can run away).
Am I good pilot? Yes. In the mech class tournaments last year I scored in the top 10% if I played intense.
But you wont see it from the k/d stats. Because that ignores roles like scouts or harassers. If I do 500dmg and get no kill because I was always the first shooting at enemy or helping a teammate make a 1:1 into a 2:1 or take their fire on me so that my teammate comes round the corner and scores a back kill - I never get a score, but the reason for the win was my piloting skills.
I dont really care I just think its stupid and unfair to judge by k/d.

I played WoT for a while, the community gets worse and worse because of insults and a lot of of e-pen compare.
Especially annoying if match even did not start and the chat is full of:
we loose anyway...
oh no a noob platoon...
omg our heavy is so noob...
again tomatoes...

I also wan't to know what to expect of players straight in the bat and not assume that they know what they are doing which has been going for too long..

seeing a ranking (someone suggested using faction ranks already in battle tech) next to a pilots name at the end of round screen would give players a better idea of how well they did. For instance, I know I got two solid kills but what tier were my enemies? If they were a high tier player it'd make me feel good for taking out priority targets... the feeling would sweet like candy and games need that!
I imagine if anyone ever griefs another over the tier ranking it is possible to opt out of all chat and mute them.

As in should this game ever garner more popularity and become more of an eSport thing then the clear choice is Option 1. But as the game is now, I choose Option 2.

There are those, who publicly wear their badges and stuff at their unform, just to show, what they´ve got.
Then there are those who do not wear anything, because they only have thingies which really do not impress anybody
and then
there are those guys who have the most impressive badge-collection you can have, but they decide to impress through their behaviour and presence, rather then publicly show shiny thingies which say "I got the biggest **** in this room!"

I am going to remind players that they have to hold lasers on target and that their small lasers cannot hit targets 500m away regardless of my PSR score....

I don't play much MWO anymore, but I really don't want to see this become the standard.

Just make it only viewable on the mwomercs.com profile screen - not in game.

In my SHC I'm a beast. In an AS7? I'm garbage. Let's say (though I'm not) the system claims I"m a T2 player.
I drop with people, they know my ranking. If I play that AS7, where I'm trying to learn how to assault, and put up a showing like.. oh, under a hundred damage and one assist (which is my usual atlas showing) - I'm going to hear no end of it from the idiots. That makes things NOt Fun.
Let's say I'm overall a T4 (far more likely) ... and put in my usual performance with my SHC - 500 dmg, 1 or 2 kills, 7-10 assists. How fast do you think the sandbagging accusations will come out? What kind of trash talk is going to start? C'mon - why should I have to deal with this nonsense, or why should anyone else?
The only Not Fun thing in this game is the idiot who dies and then blames his team, or the guy who looks at a 12-6 loss and calls everyone he just played with crap. How much worse is this going to get when we see tiers, and the inevitable avalanche of horridness that comes from it?
I don't mind knowing your own tier - it gives you something else to aspire to or generally know about yourself. Hawken did this right: you knew your own Elo, but never anyone else's. You could claim whatever you liked, but it didn't mean much as it was largely unproveable. THus, it became something of a personal rank, a statistic you could use to determine your relative ability, and nothing more. THAT is a valuable tool.
Waving it out there like a flag, implicitly or explicitly, creates a point of division. We really, really don't need that at all.

There are a number of good arguments for and against showing the stats. Opt-in lets each person decide what they want to do.
I'm hoping that it's something that can be toggled on and off.
And I wouldn't assume that someone who has it turned off is a Tier 5.
I assume that I'll be in the upper tiers. And sometimes I may want to display that, and other times I may not. So assuming that someone who isn't displaying their tier is low tier could be a dangerous mistake.
As for units being formed around tier levels.....that already happens now. Especially for the competitive teams.
Another thing to consider is that the matchmaker should be putting people of like skill together. So how often would a tier 1 be matched with a tier 5. If you are displaying your tier it may not matter too much anyway as you should be seeing people in game around the same tier anyway.
Whatever happens with this, one thing I would like to see for sure is my own elo score and tier level in my profile stats.
Personally I don't think a person's tier level would influence my attitude towards playing with them. I already play with people who are all over the place skill wise. But that's me.
Hmm...but it may influence how I play in the game itself, against other players. Assuming that we can see a person's tier on the HUD. It would change my tactics/strategy depending on the situation.

Because it is really unnecessary
If you have something witha player, get their name and make a quick search in tiers. But during matches it will have a psicological effect, and a bad one
