As for all the people worried that thier lack of skill in the game will make people treat them poorly on the forums... grow up. Idiots like me give people a hard time occasionally in game and its more directed toward the other decent players who screw our mech up and knock us out of the game. Complaints about strategy and tactics likely happen across all skill levels and probably won't change much based on the ranking system. As for idiots on forums... have you used forums before? There will be morons, but you moderate them... Anyone who argues that your opinion is less important because you're not good at the game is an illogical ******** who through disregarding others opinions proves their own should be disregarded... People who care about if you're good at the game will still care about it if they can't see your rank, but now those people can just not group with you or do so knowing there may be room for improvement. ..

Not entirely true, Skill matters on opinions as well. You will se already on the forum how many people claim BS. Often this is based of bad gameplay. and those people will be revealed by a lower tier judgement. There are too many inflated egos who "know hoe evertyhing works" yet they have inconistentcy in their logic, never bring up facts and ignore anythign someone gives as an advivce. Especially the "you are doing it wrong" advices. Many people can not accept that they are not as good as they think they are. You don't need to try hard in MWO to be good. You just need to know a few, sometimes a lot thinkgs and how they work and how to handle a few things. So opinions and judgements about the game, immersion and whatever, yes they are rank indepenend, But when people come and claim XYZ is OP, while the entire T2/T1 says it'ss not because they know how to deal with it, while T3 can't. Then this is a clear skill related issue, and T3 may have to accept they are doing it wrong, or having to l2p this part of MWO. Too many people behave like: "1+1 =3 and you won't change this opinion because I did the math." Ok simplified example, but unfortunately exactly what happens in quite a lot peoples mind.

None of this really matters to me... I voted for always show because I want to be able to see whether the match maker has grouped me in the right matches and I want to know that player X stomped me because he was tier 1 and I was tier 3.

The rest of it doesn't matter.

Yes, there are idiots on MWO like with any other game. Yes the internet consists mostly of 11 - 13 year olds. However I've found the MWO in-game community (not the forums) to be fairly mature, with only 1 out of 10 - 20 games on any given night producing some idiot who rages or flames etc.

I was very anti-VoIP because of the problems described here. I didn't want some 13 year old screaming in my ears. And yet VoIP came and the most talking I get in solo queue are people calling targets. Personally I think this information will help me, since I can see what weight classes I do horribly in. I will also be able to know when I had a bad round, or when I was just outclassed.

Besides, beating a high tier player occasionally makes you feel a lot better than losing to someone out of your league. If I get trolled by a level 100 in BF for getting owned, I shrug it off with "meh... I'm level 41, why is it an accomplishment".

TL:DR I just want fair match making or an attempt at it.

I really want this open to all. I wonder if the people saying they are getting good games now are the higher tier players and the ones saying they are getting rolled or rolling pretty much non stop are the lower tiers?

Personally it feels like a stomp, win or lose every game. Can't recall the last close game I played.

I voted no :)
(and again for the record, if it becomes opt-in, I have no issue showing mine)

I don't really see any point to showing the rating/rank to anyone since the matchmaking is supposed to sort that in the first place (it is, right?)
I voted opt-in though, as I suppose many people will like to show how 'awesome' they are

The only people who fear being criticized on the forums or in-game are the people who are tier 5 and make horrible balance posts and other terrible ideas.

Is it?

You are flatout wrong. I recommend you go to the e-doctor and line up your e-penis then come to aware there are more men waiting in the same line.

It's nothing more then a matching contest.

I love guys like you whom speculating are at is best because Tier 5 is already been defined as the 'noob' tier by guys like you. Which exactly proves my point.

The matchmaker does do the sorting on it's own. You are correct there.

No, not really. Some of us actually have brain cells, and understand how people behave on the internet. We already have a lot of trash talking going on in the forums. How much worse do you think it will get when people start using tiers to back up their E-peen?

Would I like ranks to be public? Yes

Is that possible considering how people behave? No.

People are big enough ****** already, we don't need to give them even more things to be pricky about.

So as I mentioned in my previous post, when you get the human race to stop being @$$holes, I'll vote yes. Until then, I vote no, and I am not shy about showing my tier rank. I don't care about that stuff.

What I do care about, is trying to make these forums hospitable, not more hostile.

I care more about my K/D ratio than any other factor as i keep insisting on driving sub-par mechs Because driving Meta is predictably boring. As it stands currently it's a 1.27...Pretty poor really but that's because i like driving a wide variety of mechs and have been widening my variety of mech variants recently. My Awesome's for example are about 2.5 and my locust tend to wander around 1.0 but they're by far the most fun mech.

So what would the teir rating mean for me. Jack **** that's what but i'd still like to see it to see who i'm up against. As some of my mechs are dangerous (for the enemy lol) but i get bored with them so i then go and jump into a blackjack and fight a warhawk to see who really is the better player but the teir system would be incapable of reflecting that IMO.

I do not need statistics to tell me if I am having fun or not. Why cant people just play the game instead of engaging in some meta forum war? But freedom rules, so opt-in gets my vote.

People are already telling us we are bad and our opinions are bad so it's about time they they man up and show us where these so called elite really are. I have a feeling the elite arent the people who take dumps in other peoples thread and those who do will shutup with a visible rank.

PGI, it'd be good to also tell us how you will implement them. Will it be a leaderboard? Will it just be a searchable list?

Hi Folks,

Now that Pilot Skill Rating (PSR) is in full swing and ranking on a personal level has begun, we would like to know what your thoughts are on publicly displaying your personal skill tier.

Please note:
- We will not be disclosing the match score > psr calculations.
- We will not be disclosing your actual PSR value.
- We will only be showing (depending on the result of this poll), the Tier (1-5) you reside in.

This poll will close in 2 weeks (Sept 2nd).

At first glance, it sounds like Opt-In makes the most sense, but the choice should really be all or nothing -in other words full disclosure or no disclosure at all. If I discover (for example) that I'm in a high Tier and I had the option to hide it, I would because if the enemy team knew I was a high Tier player they'd focus their fire on me. Revealing the Tiers only after the match was over will NOT help because smart players would take screenshots of the Match End screen and take down names later. If player Tiers are displayed elsewhere (like in the Forums) it would be even easier to come up with a "Kill First" list.

Tier 5 or not has no bearing on whether an opinion is correct.

We already have this mentality that if player X is a well known competitive player, then he has to be right regardless of the idiocy he's spouting. Tiers will just reinforce that.

I agree, and these people you are talking about are not those im referring to. Those im referring to are not newbies either.
