Real Time Mode is Time Rush Mode for Adrenaline Addicts - a good combat can only be enjoyed to the fullest in Turn Based Modes that offer enough time for thought about details.

Incubation, X-Com and Jagged Alliance be turn based and still unmatched - Crescent Hawks Inception (TBS) was way better than Crescent Hawks Revenge (RTS).

That's what the "Pause" button is for in the Total War series. :P

Well if PGI doesn't have anything to do with the programming for it then it might actually develop a pretty complete game.

This is seriously exciting. I can not wait to get into this game!

Question: How many will put MW:O down for this game and never look back?
Just curious how this might impact an already fairly small player base.

Heh, I won;t even be a MWO forum warrior any more once they get this rolling. The only progress PGI has made in the years is more mech packs for sell. Sorry but that pisses me off. The only reason I'm here now is I love all things battletech, and maybe secretly hope PGI will have a magical patch that does things right but I know it's a pipe dream.

My wife told me to cough up my credit card when she caught me reading this.
Thankfully I have a mad money account

It's ok you still got a couple months before they start the kickstarter, plenty of time for wife agro to bleed off. :)

I'm kind of thinking it'll end up being similar to the mectroopers from xcom. Only bigger... MUCH bigger. Also... I really want there to be infantry so I can put my bug mechs to their intended purpose.

No matter what though, this is a day 1 purchase considering their track record and my battletech addiction.

Hmm, perhaps... I'm thinking MWO might have gotten alot more because its a totally different feel sitting in that command couch as opposed to some goc view strategy... but yeah HBS has pretty much everything going for them after solid Shadowrun releases.

I just hope they are successful enough to grow and continue releasing and improving on BOTH licenses.

PS: 5 mil in kickstarter for MWO?!?!?! WTF did they spend it on... *sigh*

As a player who got into battletech lore and such from playing MWO, I am very excited to read about this kickstarter, and fully plan to back it.

I do hope that future expansions deal with the clans eventually as I love my mad dogs and timber wolves, but for now it will be great to play with the IS mechs in 3025.

Hopefully MWO will continue to stay well-populated (and I do not see why not, as they are two very different game types). It does seem rather rude to come to a game company's forum and post about another game saying that you plan to quit the current game for the new one...

In the interview they mention they want an open-ended single player. That means to me either procedural maps, or at least never ending generated missions, maybe kind like the X-Com game which reuses maps occasionally but has a lot of them.

I would like that. I enjoy playing games like Recettear which gives you stuff to do after you finish the main story of the game. Now whether I'll have fun playing the game when it comes out will determine the value of the after-campaign content, but it's promising that they are not just giving us a one-shot storymode experience.

All that stuff is what this game could have been. The 3D models are the only thing worth a crap here and they'll be using those. Whenever that game comes out I'm ditching this garbage and not looking back. I suspect lots of disillusioned Founders will be doing the same.

Man, seeing all the TT/Pen and paper RPG games getting revived in video game form makes me wish someone would make one set in the Rifts Universe even more (yeah sure there was the ridiculously great N-gage game for it, but only me and like 10 other people in the world had an n-gage, nevermind played the game..)

A game set in Rifts would be amazing. We finally for Shadowrun and Battletech out there and there should be more in both of those universes but I have always loved Rifts.

Its is really sad because there are many games that are good games but they just throw together their lore and its terrible while great lore already exists like in Rifts. If I had a great game concept and just needed lore I would be calling on Rifts today.

The madbro is strong with this community. I suspect that people will still find a reason to complain. Course they won't have to deal with other players. So that's one less thing to complain about. Hit registration won't be an issue. So that's good. The model size will not effect their chance of being hit or causing hit registration issues. So yeah. They'll only rage in a circle over pointless stuff. And any imbalance issues will not seem as evident, because the AI won't "Meta" them into oblivion.

All that wasn't really necessary. I could just have said I look forward to the game or something to that effect. But I thought I would follow suite with what others are doing.

I think it will be fine too. Since they got a history with BT. Which Tactics was not, it was so shady and b.s.

Turn based.... so much for that single player campaign/partnership with MWO we had hoped for.

On the plus side, been a while since I played mechcommander, so a new entry would be nice.

Hopefully it's more meaningful than the MW2:Mercs ending, where you basically had 2 or 3 different missions on repeat when you finished the game. A defend mission and an attack mission, I think.

But then, there's only so much you can do with an open-ended campaign. By the time all your pilots have mastered all their skills and are running around in Atlases with all the upgrades and bells and whistles, it's usually more fun to start over anyway. I just hope the single-player campaign isn't too linear.

4 mech restriction does disappoint me, but if a stretch goal is Company size, that would be excellent.

I imagine it's just because they want really detailed action and don't want to slow down the game too much. For example, the final missions in the original X-Com game were a bit of a nightmare, because you had so many troops in a fully loaded Avenger. 26 soldiers. It took forever to play those missions, because each turn was a day's work of micro management. When the battle takes so long, you lose a bit of the storytelling and the emotional build and it becomes like a game of chess rather than an immersive experience.

But yeah, I was also disappointed. It's great to be the leader of a 4-man unit of elite mechwarriors, but there's just something different when you're the leader of a 12-man formation with enough firepower to take out an army and level a city to the ground.

Just curious how this might impact an already fairly small player base.

I need a FPS game in my life at all times, so Battletech won't draw me away from this game.

Star Citizen might.
