I cannot see any serious problems with ether build, however the Blackjack arm is too small to effectively act as a shield.

as I said there is not a problem but they are not builds I would use, I would want secondary weapons on both Mechs, but that is just me

Same as what Jedi says. But a word of caution. Don't "stay as far back as possible" because you'll be called out on being ineffective (and lights WILL come for you). All weapons have an optimum engagement range. Those numbers on your weapons list are it. That rangefinder right next to your reticle is how far you're aiming. Make sure your rangefinder is within the weapon distance otherwise you'll start dealing piddly damage. Your reticle will light up red, but you'll basically be sneezing on paint if you're too far away. If you're gonna take a shot, make them feel it hard.

So, For dedicated gauss builds, here's something to think about;
"How often do you show your back to your enemy?"

Seriously, I'd leave like 3/5/3 just so your teammates don't laze you from behind, but if your going with a ranged build like that, just keep some map awareness and front load that mech. It's just... ten points for a ranger. dedicated brawler, maybe, but even then....

As for the blackjack, I usually only standard engine one sided mechs. Not being able to lose your torso just loses you the point of having a dead side, from my perspective.

Tylerchu is correct,
staying with the group is a good idea, stay with but to the rear of the formation that way you get a degree of protection from people like me who love to take a light Mech and kill lone fire support Mechs at close range, where you will have serious trouble hitting a light with a Gauss, especially as the light will stay behind you to kill you as quickly as possible.

if you are 50-100m from the main formation all you need to do (assuming you have a microphone) is hold down caps lock to talk and say
I need help with (insert Mech name and a word for the letter designation) in (insert grid reference, preferably including a word for the letter designation), someone will probably come to help, however if you are 500m away the chances of someone getting to you in time to help are slim

e.g. I need help with Spider Alpha, in Charley 5, or please help with Atlas donut in box 5, it does not matter what word you use provided it is easily understandable, e.g. if you say G I could conceivably mistake that for B, D or E where as with gocart or golf there is no risk of anyone misunderstanding what you mean
