COMPLETELY OFFTOPIC
This is the worst image macro I've ever seen for "stop being lazy". That dog looks so comfortable, so happy, I actively want to be MORE lazy, to see if I could be that happy!

hehe yea

Or maybe he needs to take a walk in a forest just for once (sounds crazy, I know).

That is a man sized robot though. I'm not saying that all the trees are huge... I mean we have huge canopies on Jungle and Well Who's to say the Forest Colony isn't on a planet with Giant Red Woods! Most of the trees on River city are pretty small.

I got whacked on the new FC map. But that was likely due to me ogling the landscape instead of paying attention to the fight.

FC is on a planet with Giant Red Woods. The trunks on the perma-trees are wider than a mech, and they are plentiful.

FC is tricky; the ground is surprisingly undulating, so target locks on a fast mover is easily broken/ intermittent, making streaks and LRMs less useful against them. This also help masks laser vomit and throws off ballistic fire on the move (because of uneven movement). Fighting there takes a bit of getting used to.

IMHO new maps are to LARGE for 12x12 only mechs fight. Its dont feel like a battle field - we need a lot of additional NPCs like a turrets, tanks, hovers, choppers, boats and other.

Maps are great, but we use for fight 25-50% of territory (like a Alpines).

So your ideal map for 12 vs 12 is what...a boxing ring?

We need large maps where you have to scout, and find the enemy, and have the option of tactics, varied attack lanes and ambushes.. not just rushing to the center and brawling all the time!

In my opinion, this sort of mentality is what's keeping this game down.. let's all just brawl in a close deathmatch ring! yaaay! That enemy pilot had blue eyes!

Also, to consider, a mech battlefield has to, by nature, demand a mech's maneuverability. If we fight strictly on flat open ground, then artillery and tanks would overcome a mech force -- especially in a game where melee doesn't exist.

All great ideas. Unfortunately, PGI left the old, familiar areas in the maps so people keep going to them and every fight happens there every time. Groups, solo, doesn't matter.

Citadel is a **** position on New River City, and so is H9 on New Forest Colony. Knock it the **** off, people.

Because most old behaviour, like following the meta or hurdling like sheeps will always remain. Unfortunately.

It's not always a bad thing.

For pre-made groups, who want to spice things up, they can find their own entertainment elsewhere on the map.

For PUGs and people who just want to have fun, a known head-butting place is good to make sure everyone gets to butt head fast and quick.

It's just catering to different folks.

But the worst part is that neither location was ever good. They don't offer any sort of map control and they force teams to fight their own members for a sight-line. They are meat grinders. It's not like the hill on Alpine or caldera on Terra Therma, which offer a good firing position or cut your team's travel time to cross the map in half.

These new maps make it clear, the designers went for 2 things only: pretty and destructible

The layout is absolutely terrible, as if someone designed them who has never played a shooter before.
The new "perks" are a disaster, there is constantly stuff hanging in your face blinding you or junk on the ground getting your mech stuck. Parts of the map even make you bug out when trespassed.

Well, war is not "Kindergarten"!

If Germany had fought there Battles only on flat terrain they would have won the War.

"I declare war on you !! let us engage on this specific spot, its flat so I can see you miles away and shoot first. Otherwise I won't fight against you!"

I think they're the two best maps right now.

My only reservation is that they're also the two worst FPS hogs (might have to buy a proper gaming rig before long).

I like the new maps. They are lightyears beyond the old ones.

Now that I know PGI can do these maps lets have a BIG CITY MAP. River City is good but urbies need a true DOWNTOWN MEGASCRAPPERS with a park in the center. Maybe elevated skyways.

I disagree completely. I think the new Forest Colony is by far the best map in the game at the moment. I've been getting consistent great matches on it.

Video below is just one of many I've had due to the nature of the new map.

according to your Video electronic warfare will be nice, like Narc or just lock on targets. The enemy can hide so much on this map its definately a pro map.

I hate continually getting hung up and even completely stuck on random ****!

Now imagine Alpines with real snow, maybe even with avalanches and other cool things

The only complaint I have with Forest Colony is the same complaint I have with Viridian Bog, no matter what mech you're in above a light, be prepared to get hung up on every little nook and cranny lol.

New River City is great for the most part. On the other hand New Forest Colony is terrible - cover is nonexistent and you are always getting shot from the side but you can't see them because of trees. I wish we could keep Old Forest Colony in rotation along with the new one because they play completely differently
