Poor Crab. With all the attention on the Black Knight and Mauler, people forgot about you. This link was placed in a Black Knight reply thread, but I figured I'd give it it's own thread.

Here is the latest short clip of the new rendered Crab on MWO's Instagram.

I think it looks pretty cool. I'm not sure about the tiled armor plate appearance, but the overall design looks good.

I like that grapple claw on the left arm. It looks like what nightmares are made of lol. The energy mounts I can see look decent.

Only real concern is CT. The CT looks massive and since this mech is primarily energy, lasers have burn time that requires face time. I'm not going to lie, it has me worried a bit. Ultimately, we won't know until we try it in game.

The torso still looks like a WWII German fighter plane to me though, so I'm going to name the chassis after German fighter aces, or go the more comedic route and name them after Hogan's Heroes characters :).

Anyway, overall I think it looks pretty cool an menacing. I approve.

The nose is either a little stubby or wide. But it doesn't look bad. The claws look different. The open one looks more traditional. Both styles look good though.

All in all I like the look.

Unique little Medium. I doubt it is gonna be better than the HBK-4P though, when it comes to laser boating.
It is a well known classic mech, so there is that.

Those thighs are absolutely thickest and dat booty pack.
No more single digit back armour for you and no wearing leg armour under 35 point for you, young lady!

I do love my Hunchback 4P. It is a good laser boat. Only thing about the 4P is it puts all of it's eggs in one basket. Almost all that firepower in one torso (although up high in that torso).

The Crab should be a bit more spread out in the weapon department. The torso is a big question mark hitbox wise, but I'm thinking the crab might fall into a longer rang fire support role whereas the Hunch is definently short range skirmisher.

I'm not sure how I'll pilot the Crab (shorter or longer range), but it should be fun.

As an energy based medium with "lighter" loadout, the speed and maneuverability should keep you facing the enemy so rear armor should be ok (unless you are running away a lot lol).

As for legs, it's never good to run legs too low. I wouldnt run legs in the 30s or lower unless it was a light and yhat was all you had. I try to always keep leg armor around 50 if the mech allows it. I will say this though, I don't notice people aiming at legs as much in the solo queue (unless it is a light), so it might get away with lighter armor (even with those thunder thighs).

It's the Raven 2X's big brother. Its large side profile makes brawling a dangerous proposition, but its low front profile and energy hardpoints makes it a candidate for some CW laser sniping action. It just depends how much Quirkification it gets.

Overall great, I have no complaints with this implementation vs. the concept art.

I'm not concerned about the CT ... with those huge legs absorbing most of the incoming fire.

The only challenge is the terminology. Everyone's already calling King Crab "Crab". Will they change their ways, or will we have to call the Crab "Little Crab" or "Crabling".

That thing is gonna pop like Ravens and Catapults. The Dragon does have company. It is the 1974 Lincoln Continental.

Look like granddad of Ebon Jaguar, it all depends on size of a mech, frontal CT profile should be quite smaller
then most 50 tonners and should be a bit short too....all in all, its the best of a bunch.

Looks good - I like the tiled effect on the "nose". As mentioned, will have either Dragon sized CT or king-size side torsos like Stalkers or the Mad Dog on it's release. XLs likely to be needed to provide competitive payload & heat management.

That's the mech I want most of all the R2 mechs. Too bad I missed my change to get the one with JJ.

Really happy and cannot wait.

About the big CT, it all depends on its hitboxes. Also the stalker has it big, but it can tank a lot thanks to hitboxes design.
Putting a st engine and a CT a la Stalker, Crab would still have a decent speed and weaponry.

That's what I am thinking it will be, a mini stalker, big side torsos but a small front profile and the ability to face tank like Rocky Balboa. This would mean Standard Engines will be mandatory though but would be super tanky.
If the Stalker is any indication you can roll damage from the front very well just by sneezing.

Crabs can move faster and one variant can jump.
