New Home Screen - similar to the new work that has taken place in the Mechlab and Mech Select we have redesigned the home screen to finally give proper expected information such as your pilot name and Pilot Skill Rating. Overall the screen will take on new meaning of useful information and beauty, important to both new and existing player's experiences.

I haven't forgotten about this!

Please knock up some portraits for us to choose between. Preferably one male, one female and one obscured face (i.e. masked) for each faction in the game + mercenaries.

I really miss the pilot picture from UI 1.0 :(

Yes please!! Good idea. The game needs the human touch. haha. But seriously, outside of seeing our crotch in-game, there's no other human element in sight. Maybe that's why scale feels off. We need someone behind that blue computer in the mechlab!

I still keep trying to wonder who would ever want to wander around my hanger that has 150 mechs in it.

I think it's a novelty thing at best, where people would love it, happy they got it, but then get bored of it or hate it.

Definitely. Whatever people may think of Hawken, their mechlab is a lot better in this regard.

Sorry :)

You know you've got a bad game when someone mentions Hawken as a benchmark.

I don't know about other people's Mechlabs, but mine has noxious fumes from the Dropship exhaust wafting up from the floor plates around the mech's feet. If you go in there, you're likely to succumb to smoke inhalation, pass out, and hit your head. I'm not going to be responsible for your medical bills.

I think it would be cool if we had a character creator like that in EVE, but with outfits more appropriate to the BT/MW universe, and no, I am not talking about an 80s look, but a look more up to date. The mechs got a more modern look so why not the style and trends for our pilots?
This of course when your hanging out in your hanger, not when your "going to work."

Yep true Hawken mechbay is superior to Mechwarriors in that regard. Again nothing else is. The tutorial is also better though.(How will Mechwarriors new tutorial stack up?)

Although I played Eve for 5 minutes recently past the character creator the style of Eve character creator and clothing is great. If Mechwarrior Online matches that then great. Its got a great sci-fi feel and not at all original true, but that style is great for sci-fi games and sci-fi movies and no wonder it is popular.

Combine the elements of those two games into the start of Mechwarrior and improve this game alot. This is basics of a game both those games failed to add completely and Mechwarrior up till now has been totally lacking. Also lack of an intro.

True its alot of front loaded "this game is amazing" factor but its just basics of a great game.

Front Mission Evolved made me completely detest the concept of having a human element in my big robot games.

A portrait, fine. Although, where is this going to go...? Your faction already is what your icon is in the pre drop menu. What's the point then, of the portrait?

Kinda suprising they don't sell avatar pics or hanger backgrounds.

LoL has been selling avatars for years and I have bought some. WoT has done many different hangers for free.

It would spice up the game and this game needs spice bad.

Whats the point of the pilot character in Star Citizen? This sounds like a jealous Star Citizen reply by the way. Also by the way, Mechwarrior > Star Citizen, just like Kenshi > X-COM, just like Fallout 4 > some bad but hyped game(couldnt think of anything to campare it to :)).

Star Citizen may turn out ok though and may even be great but it wont ever have great battles or factions or depth like Mechwarrior and Mechwarrior can have everything Star Citizen can have easily and way better as a matter of fact. Way. Why? Because Star Citizen basically has tiny crap ships. After selling those for 100's of dollars how do they add awsome ships?

There are brigdes of capital ships but this game refused to add them, I suspect because it is way to cool. Players modded them in though. In fact this game deliberately ruined the product because it so far ahead of Star Citizen. I think the massive money going into Star Citizen had a role to play. This game is light years ahead of Star Citizen at the moment.

Stuff about star citizen

This is hilarious because I've never played SC. At most, I gave it a google, and was confused when I was brought to some "space industries" site.

That doesn't exactly answer the first point though. Where are you going to show off a pilot portrait, exactly?

If Mechwarrior does the Com wheel like I think they are going to do it, the pilot picture would be used in a way for that. Top corner or something, maybe some static, from pilot when using com wheel on the field. Maybe some other uses as well.

I think it'd be neat to tie it into VOIP.
Placed just above your mech's paper doll, anyone who uses voip shows their avatar picture and their name beside it.
Some voice equalizer moving subtly under their name

Bonus points for animated avatars that move their head around, maybe with a background of their mech with puffs of steam, or blinky lights.

One big problem with this is if a player chooses a female pilot avatar and then a dudes voice comes over comms. Thats just not cool.

Comms wheel has alot of benefits also like immersion and all sorts. A huge addition though and is likely why it isnt in game yet.

So he'd sound like Caitlyn Janner, so what?

Haha, are you kidding.. that's very complex.

Do you know how long it took PGI to arrange some placeholders in the Mech Select screen?

I would love to be able to walk around the Mechbay though.

I can't appreciate the 'Mech's scale in the game right now.. I'm sure it'd be different if we're allowed to pilot tanks and humvees and walk around with infernos.

Instead of drawn portraits, they can give us tools to "draw" our own portrait.
We start with selecting a face shape as our canvas, then select and add facial features to it from a library.
Similar to Black Ops 2's emblem maker.

This will free up their artist from having to constantly supply new portrait, and people get to include their likeness into the game.
Or we just abuse it to make weird stuff like what the Internet always does.
