Head-shotted Captain Adams with the dual AC/20 Crab. He fell over without even a cry for help! I felt sad and guilty afterwards.

Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries' training academy had a Captain that returned fire if he was engaged...

I agree on the kill part, but I like that you can shoot him and he returns fire. It's expected. Training is the part where you can goof around and have fun learning.
PGI has done a fantastic job so far. I like that the VO is a little goofy too, like if you only tap F1, he tells you to hold it down like you mean it! lol.

He explains that it's a sim, so it's not like he gets killed or something.
Though, it might be a good opportunity for some fun. Have the good Captain say something like "Well, now you've done it. Time to drop the hammer!" followed by a rain of artillery until the player dies and the sim resets.

This is why they gave you a junk light to train in, you know, for those hot shots.
