I am surprised to learn that a charity event like this one would not be legal in the Australia without permits, etc... That is actually really interesting.

I am surprised that you are surprised...

I am even more surprised that PGI haven't shut you down yet or at least advised you to stop advertising on their forums.

This is a community-run event for children's cancer research. Why?

Also, why would PGI want to shut this down? Proceeds are going to a Children's Hospital and the winnings are MWO prizes from their site. Are you saying that they don't want an extra infusion of $740 USD in purchases coming their way because of this tournament?

Additionally I am not Australian, this event isn't being hosted in Australia, etc...so I wouldn't know anything about their legal system...so if you are Australian and want to compete we welcome your participation.

Also...I love this game and the community. This is an altruistically run tournament; nothing nefarious here.

In addition to raising money for children's cancer research, this is a first stab at a live streamed tournament for MWO (not hosted by PGI) to help build this community and most importantly destroy some mechs.

Could someone explain how things like this work for charity?

As in, how exactly?

I never understood how people stream for charity or whatever.

(Let me preface this by saying I have no issue with charity nor with anyone wanting to be charitable. Now let me play devil's advocate and do not misconstrue my posts as personal attack on anybody's integrity)

Because who's to say you aren't just collecting a bunch of people's money and going to do a runner with it? Why would PGI not want you advertising on it's forums? Because if you do do a runner there is a reasonable chance that people affected would attempt to hold PGI liable for their losses and there's is also a reasonable chance that legally they would be successful as these forums are owned and maintained by them and they did nothing to prevent said loss.

(It is a sad reality of today's world that, due to repeated demonstrations of flaws in human nature and idiotic legal systems, we can't have nice things.)

Do a runner...Cannot be done. I can appreciate the skepticism. All financial transactions are processed through legitimate and legal third-party hosted sites with proceeds going to The Children's Hospital of Michigan. If you would like to look up information on these companies please feel free to do so at your leisure.

They also allow me to track who has registered for the event and who has yet to do so. Additionally if the tournament doesn't take place for some reason, then all sales are 100% refunded automatically in full on October 3rd and 4th, 2015. Please make sure you fully read the tournaments details and information regarding tickets, in-kind donations, etc...so that you are fully informed.

As much as I have enjoyed these back-and-froths moving the thread back to the front of the line, I have answered these questions fully several times and it detracts from what is trying to be accomplished here. Moving forward please post these kinds of inquires to me directly or on the tournaments question thread.

Additionally PGI does have this disclaimer on the community run-event forum:

"Welcome to the Community-Run Events sub-forum. Here, players may share their self-created tournaments, contests, gatherings, conventions and other events. Please keep in mind that these events are entirely un-official and Community-driven. Neither MechWarrior® Online™, nor the staff of Piranha Games Inc., nor Infinite Games Publishing are responsible for these events."

...and if they ask me to stop that is what I will do and I will comply with their wishes.

This tournament collects donations for the Children's Hospital of Michigan through YouCaring donation platform established by me. The funds are then donated from YouCaring to The Children's Hospital of Michigan directly as an in-kind lump sum donation. It is important to note that you do not have to donate to this site and you can donate to the Children's Hospital of Michigan directly at anytime.

You are always welcome to donate to The Children's Hospital of Michigan directly and the link has been provided on this thread and several others.

We are helping because we are raising money for cancer research. This is a tournament and we are MWO players so we are going to have some fun while we do it too. ;)

So instead of me just posting "please donate to The Children's Hospital of Michigan" and hope that donations head that way, we are going to have some fun, destroy some mechs, live stream MWO battles on twitch for the entire world and hopefully put MWO in some much deserved spotlight. :)

Well that got some more details out of you for those interested at least.

Just one more little nit to pick... This is "General" not the "Community-Run Events sub-forum" :D

He originally posted in the CRE. I suggested he link to his threads here because GD gets significantly more traffic.

Do you mean more people registered as participants or more people posting?
