I saw a thread regarding the new dynamic day cycles, and how they should be removed.
http://mwomercs.com/...day-cycle-poll/

And I do agree there. However, I'd also like the night on some maps to be exactly that, night. Pitch black. Not the kind where you can adjust your monitor and see stuff, Black. Forcing ppl to use night vision or Heat vision.

There could how ever be areas on these maps with structures and lightning making patches of lights. Perhaps these could be in areas where people get an advantage on day matches, making these areas less attractive during the night.

I'd also like to see snow storms etc forcing the use of Heat vision. Perhaps disrupting sensors and radars etc.

I have written about this before somewhere in my vision for MWO thread
http://mwomercs.com/...-down-the-road/
but that thread does suggest a broader set of key changes to MWO. Here I'll only focus on the time of day and weather aspect of this.

I think these small changes could increase the value of each map if implemented right, and the same map could feel very different depending of the time of day.

whats the point of pithc black nights? unless we can not choose chassis and ecm is basically a stealth module, this is a bad idea, because then the ecm carrying snipers will be unseen and untouchable. And anyone with a midrange laodout will be superior due to night and heatvision having a short range.

poeple would plain and simple gather and hide in the most defense spot offering area.

Further I guess every mehc would ahve some basic lights to also be able to see a bit while walking around.

The point is to get a more diverse games, and the same maps could be used to give a completely different experience just by using lights in a smart way. PGI has statistics on where people are moving, where they get kills and where they die. Lighting up the more common paths forces people to choose different approaches. In the same time, crossing risky areas unseen could give an advantage etc. Also, having like +-10% chance of getting a pitch black night wouldn’t ruin the game for anyone.

Also, having pitch black nights paired with frequent lightning could be cool. Lights up the entire map for a short time for the quick aimer, and blinds NV for a sec or two. Perhaps time of day and weather could be independent of each other. 10% chance of night. 5% Chance of bad weather on both day and night maps etc. Numbers would be different for each map type.

I can’t see how this is a big problem or how ECM would be untouchable, you're not supposed to go on without NV or HV unless you're watching the patches of the area with lights that might or might not be on the map. In lit up areas mechs in the shadows can hit mechs on a further distance than they can be seen themselves.

ECM snipers would need to be closer to the enemies than usual, as they would need to rely on the same visuals as anyone else to hit anything. In short, they would need to be within the range of the NV of HV to be able to shoot themselves. When they are at that range, they are as visible as anyone else, just not on radar. But yeah, orientation and getting visuals would be harder. And the whole point of the night is to try using it as an advantage.

This forces players to be more up close and personal, however, it could also be great for those working together, with lights spotting and working together with ranged weapons mechs. Both LRMs and snipers shooting somewhat blind, relying on targeting data from others.

I don’t see how people would just hide, as I wrote, they are not invisible.

Regarding lights on the mechs themselves, I’m not sure. If the mechs lights up in the dark much of the point with night maps are gone. Except it would be cool if heated areas after laser hits had a dim but visible light a short while. PGI could also add headlights on mechs that could be switched on and off, but also destroyed. In case ppl need to search for hiding lights or perhaps even blinding NV. There are several possibilities that could be discussed.

Regarding people hiding as the last mech I also had some thoughts about this in an earlier thread.

Absolutely. I really want some night missions, where everyone has to rely on night vision and/or thermal.

Low visibility matches make scouting much more important and makes the matches less predictable. It's essentially like fog of war in a FPS.
