I can direct you to a stream last night of 4-5 players searching for literally 25+ minutes multiple times in a row until they called it... some stopped playing and others went solo queue.

Honestly seeing the search times in the group queue and hearing from unit friends saying it is unreasonable to drop group much right now... I have not bothered logging in. I probably will wait till the weekend and hope populations are better. I have limited time in the evening during the week so only getting in a few matches in hours online is not appealing.

Was so bored yesterday waiting for drops I made this. 30 minutes is such a long time and that was with a 6 man group.

Hmm..
Looks like I'm not the only one having problems with the group queue than... spent the last 2 days without any group games cause our 2 man, 3 man groups took more than 10 minutes of searching for a game unsuccessfully...

No type of ranking system will fix low pop.
So many hopes about a steam release, well MWO has been F2P for what going on to 4 years? anyone that has wanted to try it has had ample opportunity to try it, gamers searching for games find them.
Ask about MWO in any other game and most people are aware of it and most comments are not favorable.
Only thing that would come from steam release is an angry tirade from people familiar with MWO, and PGI cant censor the steam population like they can here.
I see nothing good for PGI coming out of a steam release..get use to the dwindling pop.

I did pseudo science.

Since small groups with my unitmates seem to search forever I tried something new.

I created a 12 men team of people I would all consider to be tier 2 or 3. I hope I am a good judge of skills as this is purely based on my assumption. No obvious good or bad players in the group, but all were veterans of the game and had a good idea how to pilot their mechs. I started at 21:30 my time(Netherlands) which i would classify as EU prime time.

The results were astounding.
For nearly 3 hours we had instamatches. Our longest search time (I timed them all) was 35 seconds. (!!)
Our 12 men coordinated well and comms were good so we quikly rolled through each match, but we found instant matches so we didnt mind much. (sorry if you were on the other side of this experiment at this point)

Around 1:30 am (the early start of US prime) one guy dropped and was replaced with BMMU Weztside, who I would classify easily as tier 1. Our search times increased immediatly to 2-4 minutes, but it was still very acceptable.
As more and more people dropped from the original group they were replaced by people that are all much better pilots then I am, so I would classify them all as tier 1. Search times increased with each replacement.

During what I think would be US prime time, our search times increased to 7 minutes average, with spikes to 15+ minutes three times. So as the playerbase supposedly grew bigger, our search times increased as more really good pilots entered the group.

Conclusion
Find a buddy that is not tier 1 and group with him. Find somebody that has acces to the group queue. Dont group with to many really good players. Playerbase online doesnt seem to affect search times. Group size and high tier players in the group do.

Is this how you want the matchmaker to work PGI?

PS: I hope I didnt insult anybody last night or with this post. All skills assesments are mine and are not based on anything except my personal opinion. Everybody involved in this experiment are fine pilots and good people.

As a probably tier2-3 player in Oceanic TZ with all options selected I have no issues most of the time until certain players join the group such as Juju, Odin's Steed and a few other guys who we KNOW are at the top of their game (despite PSR not being public yet). Wait times are always at a maximum, not only because mwo doenst have the biggest community but also because each game at least 1 player wont connect and so you always gotta wait till the very end till game starts. Wait times were always abysmal in mwo

What about that majority of good ppl gone clan from tukayyid and majority of premades and so called competitive ppl (well compete with so low numbers...,) too, infact i noticed those premades joining qp because of the long time of queues, I never found so much hard times to find or form an IS premade than in these times, maybe this will push PGI to let ppl mixing mechs or maybe some clan/is alliance like nova cat/draconis combine. Also wouldn't be bad to split matchmaking, full group vs grill group and solo vs solo, this for to encourage ppl to play, some could be scared to play FW due to the presence of the best units, grown a lot in numbers since tukayyid and the new skill tree (which actually buffed clan mechs).
