You did God's work. Kid was ******** and shouldn't be allowed to drive an agromech let alone an assault mech.

I know I always try to give support to the fatties when in battle. Been awhile since I have dropped in game...like a couple months, I have been very busy. Last game that rings a bell was with a gold dire, and I was in a brawler timber, small pulse lasers and 4 srm6's. We rolled the other teams flank and won the match. The gold dire went on a killing spree, it was epic! :D

Always appreciate getting support when driving an assault. Lately been finishing up a few stray variants, including the Atlas -D, and now the King Crabs. I try to type a thank you in chat when one comes to escort, but it's hit and miss if any do. Especially if I'm driving a slow azz'd crab. Always grateful for ECM cover too, when I can get it.

On the flip side, when driving pretty much anything BUT an assault, I look to the assault lance and try to head that way to provide cover. Especially if I'm in a medium or heavy.

I try to support the fatties where I can, but sometimes there's just no helping them.

You move to support that lumbering Dire while the team calls out to regroup in C3. The Dire rolls straight into E3 instead, finds the whole enemy team and gets you and himself killed, all the while moaning that "his team wasn't there to support him".

Also had a funny case of an enemy player out on his own, derping around in his Zeus engaged with 3 lights who were pretty rubbish pilots. The rest of our team is dead because half of our team is split engaging one mech and failing, so I figured I get the kill and at least get something from this game. I fly up in my little Urby, and engage his rear. The pilot derps some more, overheats and then gets cored by me as I tear up his rear.

Then he goes on a rant of "3 lights lights reported for back shooting" or some crap. I lol'd. This is one of those players that can't be helped.

As an assault pilot, we're not all complete idiots....I hope...

When fighting against any organized team, you should be wary of any mediums or heavies waiting to unleash unfettered retribution against you for attacking their primary damage fountains.

Even in solo I stick next to assaults to make sure they get to do what they need too.

Any player (usually light) that specifically comes over to the assault lance to help or be there if help is required specifically gets a thank you from me every time.

Cheers!

I play assaults more than pretty much anything, and yeah I appreciate support, but it's extremely rare to actually get it. It sounds like that guy had all the situational awareness of a grapefruit. If it had been me, I'd have noticed the ECM effect on my HUD and would be looking for the enemy responsible.

I think it's worse than a grapefruit.

Oh...YEAH!

Anybody who is willing to squish spiders on my arse is OK in my book..

I just bought an Executioner.. so I'm sinc dropping with a unit mate, and we end up on opposed teams.. I'm in my new EXE, she's in an Artic Cheetah.. we'r on Caustic..

So she finds me and playfully starts harrasing my backside (not in a nice way). I back up into a wall and let her have my lasers.. A full minute later, we's both cored, I'm almost legged, and we'r still going at it, both overheating, trying to best the other and loughing like crazy.. And then, Just as I HAD HER... somebody from my team steals my kill...

I'm like (in the voice of Vader) NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

And then I hear the victory music..

She was the last enemy team member...

And then I'm like.. Ok, thanks team mate ;)

(Proud of myself for surviving so long against the Cheetah.. The warrior piloting is a great player, and I know she wanted to get me, cose' she was like "oh its on Vellron!". I was like "yeah, bring it girl!")

P.S.

You know who you are...

One of the first things I do in a match is figure out where the Assault Lance is starting. I then usually rally toward them (and encourage the group to do the same). If I'm in an ECM mech I usually try to escort them to the rest of the team (and announce that I'm bringing ECM escort).

I've found the Shadowcats especially good at escorting the Whales because they fill more of a support role then a light would.

So, here's the story. I'm escorting a Dire Wolf and hanging back with him during the match. After a brawl gets started I notice he's standing at the back of the group and starts getting attacked by an ECM Spider. My Shadowcat has 2 ER Large Lasers but I decide to try to help. I run towards the Dire and start shooting the little guy a bit. I also put my ECM on Counter. The Spider runs off ... success! Then I take a Gauss slug to the torso out of nowhere. That Spider must have brought a friend. I switch ECM back on Disrupt and circle a bit standing close to the Dire Wolf. Another Gauss slug to the leg. And that's when I notice the 'friendly' Dire Wolf is facing me; shooting me! The conversation goes something like this:

ME: "Stop shooting me"
HIM: "You were shooting me. You almost cored my rear armor"
ME: "That wasn't me. It was a Spider on your butt. I came to help."
HIM: "I saw you shoot me."
ME: "I have ER Large Lasers. I may have grazed you while firing at the Spider."

So. He never saw the Spider. He noticed his armor was getting shredded, looked up and saw a friendly shooting in his direction. After repeatedly explaining to him what happened he continued yelling at me and never thanked me for helping him or apologized for stripping half my armor off and one torso.

I only just re-started playing after beta and I'm loving the shadowcat. But until now I've been flanking and harassing, it never occurred to me to use my SCAT in the manner described by the OP. From now on I will, cheers.

Good on ya mate!

Assaults are friends, not food!

- P.S. -

Feeling heavy? Feeling left out? Feeling slugish lately? Your teeth hurt? People telling you you're to fat? You must be playing an Assault!

Now you can shed all those negative feelings! Simply take a single pill of FUKADOL!

Fukadol is a new revoultionary cure that packs all those feelings into a small, yet powerfull Gauss slug and launches it str8 to the enemy!

Don't be slow again! Get gauss-powered FUKADOL!

Available in mechlabs near you..

Disclaimer:
The active ingrediant in Fukadol is Gauss ammo. Always consult your mech specialist or engieer about using Gauss ammo. You might be alergic to it.

I'm always escorting whales when I fly this bugger. Best way to skirt around the enemy practically unnoticed. Nobody looks at the cookies when there's a whale-sized cake in front of them. And with the current meta of front-loaded armor... that little cookie is a backstabbing murderer.

Keep front-loading your armor, assaults! I approve!

One idiot is not indicative of an entire class of players. I have just as many stories of teammates running off and leaving me to fend off a pack of lights by myself.

Of course assaults appreciate support.

Story time...
so i decide to work towards mastering my shadow cats and jump into a pug match, found myself on river city which started off the usual way of people tacking pot shots across the river. Both sides stay at their side of the river neither team wanting to start a push, so I'm popping out from buildings and pop tarting as you do blasting away with my ERPPC (the only long range weapon i had) i notice an Atlas not doing much just stood there looking like it was waiting for something, watching the team who by this time had pitched tents and had made a camp fire. I figure he has a short range brawling build "unlucky" i thought as i begrudgingly stayed with my team taking shots of opportunity from between buildings then i noticed he had starting moving across the river on a flanking manouver, i guess he got bored and would rather die with his finger on the trigger than sing camp songs. I myself was also bored and decided to got and die in a blaze of glory and fire with the atlas but the enemy had tunnel vision letting me the Atlas and one other guy sneak up round the side under ECM cover. The other guy in a clan med (forget its name as i don't have one) ran ahead loosing ECM cover got spotted and got wrecked, as me and Atlas slowly walked around the corner the enemy had no idea we were there, i waited for the Atlas to open fire so i could hit the same target who quickly went down Atlas opened up on another and i shot at the same guy he went down rather quickly, we took out 3-4 enemy before the rest of the team grew a pair of balls and came rushing in and mopping up.

Now i know that there was a lot of good luck on our side by not getting spotted and that the Atlas did most of the work but i believe that if me and my ECM didn't go with he would of been spotted and gang *****. I believe that we changed the battle from a sniper duel to a bar fight and i'm sure me and Atlas had much more fun.

P.S. sorry for bad grammar, i tried

As a dedicated assault pilot, I run one of these as filler in my CW dropdeck and managed to get 700 damage with it alone yesterday. The cookiemonster is no joke!

If I get light cover in a game, I'll happily put my Dire in harms way to run interference for them through out the game. If I get left to myself, well, fu*k em, I'll take care of myself through out the game and won't put myself out there to assist them if they get in trouble.

I may get light support perhaps 1 game in 20. Maybe. When it happens, I make a point of thanking them. Most lights I see are too busy playing at being a tank because that's more profitable for them. The design of the reward system encourages lights to farm damage rather than use their mobility to help the team win.
