Gravity just attracts an atmosphere, it can't hold on to one by itself. If gravity was the only qualifier for an atmosphere, a LOT of orbital bodies would have them, but they don't. No magnetic field, no atmosphere for you.

Unless of course you dispute that solar radiation is capable of stripping an atmosphere...

Planets can lose atmosphere due to it being stripped away by solar wind.

Earth has an magnetic field that protects against the worst of the solar wind... and stellar bodies that have no magnetic field can still have an atmosphere, by replenishing their atmosphere faster than they lose it.

Idea: RND shot spread when shooting untargeted (increasing RND with increasing speed, temp). After targeting, must wait for full lock to achieve convergence and tracking with no RND spread, and then only on the locked mech.

Not sure if it would work in MWO, but it's closer to what they describe in the books and TT with targeting comps.
