Thanks PGI now we know how the Mauler stack up to other Assaults in terms of size. That, and the missile launchers are indeed removable. The missile launchers, as you are aware are very high on the Mauler, but mounting it make its hitboxes easier to hit, so it is a trade off.

First up, we have the Mauler with launchers squaring off against the same weight Highlander at 90 tons. Mauler's arms are slightly higher than that of the Highlander but the torsi mounts are almost the same. Mauler has slightly raised crotch than Highlander.

Posted Image

Then we got the 95 ton Banshee to compare against. They have the same crotch level but notice how Mauler's arm shields are taller than that of Banshee's. Should be fun shielding with those, even against LRMs.

Posted Image

Then we got the 95 ton Executioner. Draw your own judgements.

Posted Image

And here are the same comparison pics without Mauler's missile launchers.

Finally this pic is just to illustrate how wide is the 80 ton Victor. Poor thing didn't make it to the re-scale polls, but there is always next time, I hope.

My conclusion? The Mauler is scaled very well for its size. The torso overall is slightly wider than I would have liked but it is still a good chassis.

What do you think?

I think that when they come out for CBills, I may have to see if they can give my BNC a run for it's money on survivability.

Not sure how much firepower you can cram in one and not go less than 60, thus negating most of the durability, that'll be the real test.

To be fair it's very difficult to draw conclusions from pics. The end results are also quite personal depending on the player's playstyle.

I have to be honest though and say that the Mauler really doesn't look XL friendly at all at first glance. Even with extra ST armour it's still going to struggle at twisting and spreading unless it carries a big engine.

I also have to be honest again and say that I only bought R2 because I'm a bit of a completionist whale. I wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

Is it just me, or that it (without the missle pods) look vaugely like MW4's Awesome with an Griffin head mashed into it?

But, ooh, lovely pictures.

Four LB-X10? I foresee a new meta on the horizon. But they're low slung enough that if a gauss carrier sees it trying to hill hump....boom.

Why would you foresee a new meta? In order to take 4x LB on a mech that size, you aren't going to have a big engine, or much ammo, or much in the way of backup weapons.

I think it much more likely that we'll see these fitted more like KGCs, with mass AC/5s and UACs more than most other ballistics, with dual gauss being the other mainstay, backed up by various energy weapons.

Doesn't work on the dire I don't see it working here. Lbx weapons still don't work very good.

For me , my crab does everything this can do.

Quad UAC5s will be higher and not so wide, BUT you lose the vertical arm articulation.

Even without the missiles it's going to be a little taller, but probably the same overall size in the torso.

I'm not really interested in the Mauler, but I'm curious, does the missile pod size varies among SRMs and LRMs?

It would suck if you put one rack of SRM6 on each torso and the missile pods turn out to be the same size as LRM20s.

Since it is dynamic, I am guessing that it will indeed change depending on the launcher size.

I think it will all hinge on that CT. If it takes up that whole fat bottom triangle (minus the little winglet things at the hips) then any shot aimed between the dakka hardpoints and the crotch can pretty much ONLY hit the CT. This will make it one of those mechs that fares well under indiscriminate fire, but evaporates under well aimed shots from an enemy who knows how to exploit it's weaknesses.

If they manage to sneak some ST into there, it might be, dare I say it, great.

They probably had the crotch divided up between CT and legs like the Atlas, or the Banshee.
