Why would you foresee a new meta? In order to take 4x LB on a mech that size, you aren't going to have a big engine, or much ammo, or much in the way of backup weapons.

I think it much more likely that we'll see these fitted more like KGCs, with mass AC/5s and UACs more than most other ballistics, with dual gauss being the other mainstay, backed up by various energy weapons.

Yep. 100% of all (well built) Maulers will have one of these options:

4xAC5
4xUAC5
2xGauss
2xAC20
2xAC10
5xAC5 (joke build but funny, more viable than 4xLBX10 as its 4 tons less. 8 tons of ammo @ STD300)

With various backup weapons. Not missiles. If you want an Assault LRM boat use the Awesome, Mauler aint gonna have that lvl of quirkage.

I'm hoping that the future Mauler Hero will have at least 4 missile points so I can finally have a Hero Assault Missile Boat. ;)

Well, technically the 1R will have 4 missile ports and a 30% cbill bonus .. so there is that.

You are correct, but I blew my spare cash on MCs, unfortunately.

My conclusion? The Mauler is scaled very well for its size. The torso overall is slightly wider than I would have liked but it is still a good chassis.

What do you think?

Pretty agree.
I must say I never liked the Mauler'look , throughout TT, mw2 etc. (those shoulders look weird to me, bth) but PGI has done an awesome work on it.

ST without racks appers acceptable enough not to be insta-wrecked.
Hardpoint locations are good enough.

I'll buy them for sure. (c-bill version)

It actually looks like it is less wide than the Battlemaster and that mech is XL friendly. Hmm maybe the Mauler can run one too.. I'll try it out.

Love the look of the Mauler and it appears to be scaled very well. Now, normally I never liked the mech because I always thought it looked ugly as sin but Alex has once again made an ugly mech into a work of art.
I am so glad I sprung for this Mauler package.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

I'm not really interested in the Mauler, but I'm curious, does the missile pod size varies among SRMs and LRMs?

It would suck if you put one rack of SRM6 on each torso and the missile pods turn out to be the same size as LRM20s.

I hope so, one of the builds I plan on running is with 2x LB10X, 4x SRM4s and a couple lasers as a sort of a shot gun mech supreme for the lols.

The only thing that makes the BLR at all XL friendly is the fact that it can run a huge (375-400) XL and use the power to twist fast, its hitboxes arent good for XL use imo. Mauler looks a little better on the hitbox front, but it has a 325 engine cap, so its not really comparable in that regard.

The Mauler looks like it'd benefit greatly from LFE. It might turn out to be XL friendly in a similar way to the Banshee, blocking with it's arms. Small engine though. :/

If XLs are manageable at all, I'm excited to try 4xAC5 + 2xLL.... otherwise standard UAC boats galore. I doubt we'll get away with XLs though... if only the mech could hold a 380. THEN it would be XL friendly.

Dang your right. I didn't look at the engine size. 325 is pretty puny. Yup I now agree with you the XL option isn't a viable one unless it has insanely tough hitboxes.

Yeah I don't know why they didn't at least let us take an XL 350. I guess the 90 ton speed crown will go to the Cyclops (360 stock).

Lore reasons. PGI almost always set the max engine rating to 1.2 canon value. Since canon Mauler engine is 270, the max rating in MWO cannot be over 325.

Oh, and Kingfisher is just as fast as the Cyclops. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Kingfisher

Yep, in other words it will move like an Highlander and with similar hitboxes.
A quite full armor Mauler with ST engine 300 has 44 free tons, 54 kph (59.4 with speed). Possible 4ac5 but slow.
With 325 st engine, 38.5 free tons, so 4ac5 with 6.5 tons of ammo; too few.

I think I'll have fun with a double gauss+lezors

Please also compare size to Awesome (rediculously high front pixel count) and Zeus (rediculously low front pixel count).

I don't have those mechs, so can't do it myself.

thanks

Yep already have Dual gauss and 6 MLs penciled in for my 4th variant. Might go XL and upgrade 2 of the MLs to LLs just for fun, but the ST deaths will be plentiful.

is it just me or does it's left arm shoulder to pivot gear (actuator/whatever) appear to be much smaller than the one on the right?

The rule is 1.4x stock engine for lights, 1.3x for mediums, 1.2x for heavies, and 1.1x for assaults. There are obviously exceptions like Panthers, Urbies, Hunchbacks, and Centurions...
