As to the rebalance - we are going to Public test at least once before live . Not sure where the information comes from that we are not going to public test. As to missed previous Public Test dates - I simply provide my best hope and estimates and state them as just that - if you don't like the estimates we can just hold back on that kind of information more often.

The rebalance is now complete - we need to internally branch test then set up a public test - trying to next week after Labor Day.

As to Steam - no there is no official release date and we still have the luxury of some fluidity - that is a good thing not some negative notion of falling behind. Things change and we realize we should add a feature before we go on steam. But we are getting close.

Thank you for the update on the Rebalance.

As to Steam

Is it possible that we are getting a playerbased economy like TF2?

Russ provides fewer release estimates because he's learned the community will crucify him if they're missed.

Of course, that wasn't really the problem. The problem was that the deadlines were missed without acknowledgement, and no regular updates given, for over a year on certain features. Timely announcements of "yep, this is going to have to be pushed back", offered on PGI's own volition, would be highly helpful even if they were frequent. But I can see why Russ frankly just prefers to play things close to the vest these days.

If you're going to miss a deadline, at least mention the deadline is going to be missed. Pretending a deadline didn't happen only serves to frustrate people. Yes, you missed a deadline.. AT LEAST mention it so it doesn't become a forgotten topic.

FYI, when someone says "Hoping for sometime in October" or something to that note, that is NOT a deadline. That is a goal, and doesn't really mean anything.

There was no Statement of Work with a proposed shedule, with milestone dates. That was simply an update to the community expressing a goal/desire to have something by a certain ball park timeframe.

Personally, the Steam launch should be delayed as much as possible until core things are fixed... so any delay is not a dealbreaker

The thing is, I trust more in mechs dropping "on time" than any other proposed "feature" that has an ETA. I stopped bothering with deadlines long before the PTS for another round of "requirkerning" (this time it's the BV edition).

not looking forward to steam. MWO is hard on my system as is, the steam interface has always caused me issues. i wish when this launched to steam there was a "no steam needed" option

You won't have to play through Steam, you can continue to launch through your current game client. In fact its better for PGI if you do continue using the existing client, since then Steam doesn't get a 30% cut of the things you may buy. It's getting added to Steam, not replaced by a Steam only client.

A lot of incorrect assumptions.

With correct information being scarce (again), incorrect assumptions is all we have. It is in your hands to change this unfortunate situation, Russ.

Or, you know, be a little more forthcoming and actually let us know that you've pushed the date forward? Just a simple "Hey guys, seems we've hit a little snag and won't make the PTS before mid-September at the earliest" would instantly kill all rumours about missed dates and also do something about all those incorrect assumptions.

Again, good to hear, and thank you for providing us with good, solid information (no official release date).

The mech drops are one of the few things that actually have deadlines. Typically when stuff in the Roadmap is going to come later than the listed patch day, they let us know.

Saying "We are going to try to have the BV balance pass done in August with some PTS" is not a deadline, its just a goal, there was never a specific date listed or anything.

Show me where the official deadline for the balance pass PTS was listed, if it even exists?

I'm not even saying it's much of a deadline, but it MUST get mentioned. Even the ECM change that is still mentioned has no ETA either. It's worrysome that things get mentioned and have a semblance of an "indefinite" ETA.

It's more appropriate to keep people apprised of things, even if it's not even a hard "deadline". I know it's word semantics, but ultimately just mentioning "goals" still has a meaning and a purpose.

Wouldn't it make sense they're waiting to test the ECM change alongside the other changes they're making? They heavily hinted at changing sensors. Likely finally making sensor ranges different for mechs.

I don't think anyone here in the MWO forums will even notice the Steam release. We're all Tier 1 players. We won't even see the new guys.

I will see them and I will greet them with my club.

The sensor change is vague, so it's still unknown/unclear what exactly is going to happen.

I dont think players from steam will mind so much is under construction at all. This is the landscape for players these days anyway with so many kick starters.

The new player experience however isnt in yet. A proper introduction to Mechwarrior is whats needed and will buy time to make the other improvements and addtions.

All players have seen of the new player experience so far is a mostly done tutorial. Really its tough to say from players perspective when Mechwarrior will be presentable for a bunch of new players.

+1 for mech sim.
