I thought that too, but what seems weird to me about it is that the timer always starts at 15 minutes no matter what. I would think that it would be delayed too.
EDIT:
Unless... It only starts for the player when they have actually activated, but things go so fast I haven't noticed the timer leaping ahead to catch up with others, except when I die where I have noticed around a minute or so jump in the timer.

Games dont start until everyone is in or the 60-80 seconds timer expires. Either way we all start at the same time.
97 kph is not fast, in fact its pretty middle of the road. Most "FAST" mechs in this game go over 130kph. You can literally make it all the way across the map on Frozen in less then 2 minutes in a ACH or Locust.
I see two reasons for this...
You dont know how fast those mechs coming after you really are, its not unheard of for mech to meet you there on the ramp before your fatties make it up to the rest of the team.
You dont know the maps and are taking a bad route. If you dont have JJ's you cant jump over the buildings and you are going to be running around them which should take about 30 seconds more.
So 1 minute for you and 20-30 seconds for them. just going 40kph faster would get them there in no time.
