TL;DR edit because I type too much.

The current view seems to give a somewhat flat, almost orthographic view of your 'mech. It's nice for comparing size, or viewing specific angles of your 'mech, but it's not that interesting IMO.

The current view looks a bit like this, though I think I emphasised it a bit much:

Posted Image

What if the camera was brought in much closer to the 'mech and given a far lower focal setting, so that the 'mech appeared more like this:

Posted Image

The 'mech looks a little smaller, but to me appears far more 3D and aesthetically better. But beyond that, this allows the camera to be positioned in different ways. Imagine a control on the bottom right of the mechlab that transitioned the camera between different view points.

Posted Image

Personally I'm just grabbing towards the ability to view your 'mech at interesting angles, and I'd rather a mechlab where one looks up at their 'mech rather than directly at it. Early versions of the mechlab and I think very early version of '2.0' had a camera more like this.

Posted Image

So what do you think? What view do you prefer? Would you like more controls on viewing your 'mech in the mechlab or isn't it that important to you?

I get this isn't that big of a deal nor am I trying to make it one, but just little things like this I think can go a long way in areas such as first impressions. A new player will be significantly more in awe of their giant robot if they first see it from a ground perspective.

TBH, I want them to redo the hanger entirely, to be something more in line with the tutorial, with PEOPLE inside!

I'd love to see techs working in the background, and to be able to view your mech the way you described with a 360 degree camera.

I would also fork out cash money to be able to customize said garage, with different locations, furniture, banners etc.

Version 1.5 I believe we refer to it as.

Zooming in/out and different angles would be nice to have but personally, I'd just be happy if they let me rotate my Mech from anywhere. The complete inability to spin the mech from the Home screen and a few other screens is just dumb, and by the looks of the patch notes they've removed this ability from the MechLab now as well.

+1.

Alex's designs are things to be ogled and appreciated from every angle, they aren't meant to be locked away like a painting and appreciated like a peasant.

AFAICT, only when using the Expanded view (the "smurfy" view), which covers (most of) the 'mech anyway.

Either way, I never understood why they didn't make the glorious 3D rendition of the 'mech the centrepiece of the UI in the first place - I'm looking at my Commando, why do I have to select which 'mech I want to see pilot skills for? If I wanted to see pilot skills for my Centurion, I'd be looking at my Centurion, no?

And for that matter - having UI bits cover the 3D image of the 'mech? No no. Bad UI designer, no cookie for you.

Ah I see. I can't even remember if I was playing prior to UI2.0. :P

Unique hangars:
  • Field hangars, in different locations. Frozen, desert etc.
  • Unit hangars:
    • Imagine if a unit hangar rendered some of the mechs of online members. When they dropped into battle, they would fall through the floor like the Atlas in the teaser video.
  • Hangar decorations!
    • Pennants, flags, maybe support vehicles, a bed, prefab buildings, PEOPLE WALKING AROUND, a bar, command table, piles of junk etc.
  • Different hangar styles:
    • High tech
    • Low tech
    • Space!
    • Cave
    • House barracks
    • Dropship
      • In combat/space/landed/crash landed etc
  • A city/base under attack
    • Like river city, but with more smoke and dakka, and techs feverishly working on your mech, explosions and dust falling from the ceiling...

I really, really, really would pay money for hangar customization. People fork out craploads of cash in MMO's to customize their housing. I would too.

Disco balls, a command center, a hammock pitched on the antenna on my mech's head, techs running around in a panic, medics carrying wounded away, officers walking around, people fighting and betting on it, piles of ammo and equipment lying around... i'd microtransact the crap out of these things.

Except on High rez / Triple Monitor displays, where the mech lab is aaaaalll the way over on the, and the mech is plainly in view. Let me spin!

Just thinking of how it would be like if you had the ability to control your pilot and walk around your mechbays, climb ladders and get on the catwalks above mechs, look at your weapon inventories, talk with your techs, and maybe even walk around your base, and eventually get in your mechs to prepare for drops. It would really add a load of immersion to the game and open up the possibilities for social zones in mwo in which factions or even units could have their own bases and walk around in them.

Not really expecting it to happen, but it opens up a lot of things that pgi could do, maybe even a trading market in which players go and put up weapons and equipment to buy and sell from other players. This could even be added on to that idea of specially quirked equipment.

Micro transact isnt pgi's thing... if they ever do it they will lock it away from mc because they dont want you to use existing mc stockpiles...

I don't think you know what orthographic means.

I do have a basic idea what it means, and I'm fully aware the mechlab view isn't true orthographic, I said that at the level it's set at it almost seems like it. These look pretty similar below, do they not?
