I've had someone try to help me figure this out on my nvidia system before.

Does this affect 3D settings, or just video playback? I was under the impression that the video color settings didn't apply to 3D (but then again, I haven't taken PC gaming all that seriously in many years).

I think it's just video playback. I always have it turned on, gets rid of grey bars in vlc.

Yes its for video playback, youtube and stuff.

NVIDIA panel
Adjust desktop Color Settings
Dinamic range

Better yet, get yourself a high-quality monitor and a color calibrator. ;)
