So PGI is willing to go rounds with Harmony Gold?

We must have been funding the legal department up to this point.

The 'original' Marauder art wasn't really Marauder art - it's Glaug Officer's Battlepod art FASA repurposed in its youth to Marauders. Frankly I've always thought it looked really out of place in BattleTech; the art itself is very cool, but it doesn't look like a 'Mech, and it had the same noodle-bicep issue a lot of the crappy old TRO art suffered from. It probably started the noodle-bicep issue. God I hated the noodle biceps...

Anyways. The new CGL art, this new Piranha art? Those are Marauders. From-the-ground-up, built-for-BattleTech Marauders, and they're awesome. If you're just completely unable to accept anything but the bone-stock original art...well, someone will make a Macross game eventually.

I think you will find Catalyst Game Labs did the heavy lifting here. We simply get to benefit.

True enough. That's one monster-sized AC5 in this version:

I like the 'hammer in the center, but that MAD in the back still looks a little spindly for a 75ton front line battle mech... It's part of the problem that FASA had in the beginning using mechs from Mecha anime, that sadly are not really compatible with the rest of the look and feel of the Battle-tech universe...

I mean look at the Mad Dog and Timber Wolf, their current MWO legs feel right for their weight class, they don't look out of place with tooth-pick legs, that I doubt could have supported the weight of the mech.

I look at the Marauderr art work, and I can get the feel of the 3025 TRO out of it, it looks aggressive, a trait of the Marauders, and how they are often used. For me, the Warhammer is going to be tricky, the thing is meant to feel (and look) like a Juggernaut or a Dreadnought, tough, strong and utterly relentless. I mean it has to be, with a quote like this for it...

"A mobile 'Mech with enough firepower to destroy or severely damage any 'Mech of the same weight class or higher."

Russ teased on the Townhall that he was not going to show the WHM art... :(

From what he said, it gave me the impression that any other "Classic" mechs getting released will depend on how well the MAD sells.
Which shouldn't be hard, really. It's a frakkin' 75 ton mech with a high Ballistic like the Jags at the low price of 20$? Seems like a sure sale to me...

Yep. VERY happy he and PGI are committed to the "Classic Mechs".

Not only Marauder and Warhammer, but he mentioned other Classics such as Archer, Stinger, WASP, Rifleman. These could have been mentioned in passing or examples of what he calls "Classic" however.

No matter, they are committed to this and that alone was very reassuring to hear. Now it will be up to us to show how committed we are to these Classics and MWO. Reads like a great many will show that support and order as soon as they can, myself included.

I suggest that everyone that can, order! We have been wanting these forever. Now we can step up and put money where the mouth is. Let's show support, if financially viable, to PGI and standing up for what we want and delivering a classic mech - with potentially more to come if we show that support.

How many of you fellow BT nerds have wanted to pilot one of these classics in MWO and for how long?

If these classics do well how long before we could possibly see the IIC variants?

No, I'm saying if CGL hadn't done the heavy lifting, PGI would never have the grit to try this.

I hope PGI doesn't wimp out on this... I'm going to get the Marauder and the Warhammer both.

same. I may not love the marauder concept art, but I didn't love the Ebon Jag, or Mauler either, and the final in game models were better, so hopefully the arms and legs will get addressed.

They gonn a have to really try hard to screw up the Whammy. It's my dream Mech, my first Btech love. Hopefully the Mauler is indicative of not sucky ppc arms for the Whammy.

That in game would also be a lawsuit waiting to happen though, unless Sony was ok with it

Being fair Bish, it does still take grit to back Catalyst's play like this, and Piranha is putting their butts on the line to some extent for us. Heh, you could see this less as Piranha vulturing off of CGL's mojo and more Piranha standing shoulder-to-shoulder with CGL in saying "We're DONE letting you assalopes hold these 'Mechs hostage. G'head. Summon your legal devils. We dare yaz."

Also we can buy a metric McShatnerload of Marauders so that both CGL and PGI have stronger court cases if it comes down to that. Let's get on that one, shall we? :P

From listening to Russ, I got the impression, even after him stating it clearly, they are fully committed to this.

I suggest everyone listen to his words from the Town Hall - you can hear it not only from his words but in his voice. They are behind this 100%. They will go the distance if they have to.

I want these mechs as much as everyone else does. Just as much as PGI wants to delivery them to us.

To get more of these Classics it will be up to us to show our support by pre-ordering.

Now is the time to step up and show that we were not just talking sh*t when we said we wanted these mechs. Time to show them how badly we want these classics by making the Marauder pre-order the best in MWO history.

I'm aware of legal ramifications. I'm just sentimental about the old artwork, even if it was a blatant rip-off. I didn't know it was at the time, and by the time I found out, it was firmly locked in my mind as being the Marauder. They should have called this thing something else. I'd have a much easier time accepting that.

Didn't say they were jsut mooching. Just saying they weren't looking to pick that fight on their own. Once Russ became aware that CGL was staring HG down, they acted. It's a win win for Btech fans, period.

Do have to say though, a town hall filled with "no" answers and bad ideas

announces Marauder etc, everyone rejoices, forgets town hall

anyone have a shadow of a clue to why nothing really ever changes yet?
