SO... Am I reading this correctly and seeing that weapon quirks are gone?

Yup, pretty much. The only ones left are tiny afterthoughts like -2.5% missile cooldown on the Mad Cat S RT, and they forgot to change the Mauler's quirks it seems.

What the heck? Is this for real? I don't know what to say. I hope this isn't the final edition of this, because this is rubbish.

Unless there's a lot more they plan on doing to this system, like going back and adding in some weapon quirks before release, armor quirks, etc, I'm not seeing any part of this that's good.

Yes the 50% weapon quirks were extreme, but now no offensive quirks whatsoever? Pretty much all the armor buffs are gone, and many mechs got movement nerfs...

Some mechs like the BLR-2C are almost pointless now...I bought that mech specifically because it was a BLR with better armor quirks than a Zeus, now it's just another BLR.

I really hope this was just an extremely rough pass, and they're in no way seriously thinking this was going to be it, because this misses the mark in so many ways...it's mind blowing.

Also, the info warfare neg quirks seem to me like they're going to result in a lot of FF when people aren't seeing red doritos and they just react and shoot.

I disagree. Weapon quirks are gone, and good riddance. If you gonna give all IS mechs +20% laser cooldown quirk, what's the point. Just change the damend weapon already, if you think that's the problem. Way easier than going around on mech by mech basis. They concentrated on passive quirks which is a good, GOOD thing.

Now, just bring the weapons closer together, and change heat mechanics:

1) lower heat capacity by ~50%
2) increase heat dissapation a little bit
3) change the heat cap to a soft-cap: above ~75-80%, make mech start taking damage slowly and shutdown after 1~2s of being in that heat range, with the ability to override. above 100% is a hard-cap: unoverride-able shutdown and taking damage despite that.

They aren't going to do things like mess with heat, etc, so taken without the changes needed to make it balanced, just tossing all weapon quirks is a bad thing.

I'm not saying the 50% quirks and whatnot were good, but all weapon quirks gone? No comparing IS and clan mechs now...it's just the competitive mechs(clan) and non-competitive(IS).

I don't fault them for wanting to get rid of 50% quirks, but removing them entirely? I hope they put this out into the PTS to determine what quirks to give, because if this is their idea of balance, then it's frighteningly far off.

The speed with which you target something will pretty much never be as important as weapon heat/cooldown/damage, but that seems to be the primary quirk given apart from some armor/structure buffs. As others above me have said, this is a huge nerf to IS mechs more than anything. It actually kind of scares me that they may actually think these types of quirks are good enough to make them competitive with clan mechs.

I'm testing an Enforcer this PTS, no pilot skills, 5ML + AC10, and I'm having no trouble against Clan 'Mechs driven by recognizable pilots who are enjoying the usual yawn-worthy 'meta' builds.

You'll have to excuse me for thinking this is all in your heads to some degree or another. :)

I just read in another thread that they plan on balancing sensor related quirks before moving on to weapon quirks, so hopefully all these fears are unfounded.

Um, nope, don't excuse you, because your own argument invalidates itself.

You may be a good pilot, and in particular, good with the ENF. Just because you don't see a difference, doesn't mean there isn't one. So it could all be in your head.

Also, the main point isn't that things are so different, it's more that the new system won't change the meta, only make some mechs worse, while the current best, stay best. That's the whole point, if it doesn't change balance or the meta, they won't use it.
