Heavy and Assaults get a base 500m, mediums get 600m, lights get 800m.

So.. we have LRM's with 1000 m (1100 m with WRM) effective range.. BUT, we can't use (lock with) them alone, on almost the half of their range with the higher weight classes? On the same time, EXCEPT some of the smallest range weapons (MG, Flamers, Small Lasers, AC20..etc.) can EVERY other weapon hit us?
Simply.. I think, that sound just very stupid!

No it sounds like you need a spotter, like a light scout for example. That makes absolutely sense.

This just means that you need to have team members lock much more than before (which was already difficult for many).
And you might want to carry more backup weapons like an ERLL or something so you are not 100% useless "boating" lrms.
It's good against boating LRMs.
It's good for teamwork and scouting role warfare
It also makes light and med mechs have some kind of advantage over the bigger brothers besides just speed.
