Hello Mechwarriors, I've recently came across a setting option on my mouse's driver to enable\disable acceleration.
With the mouse sensitivity I'm using (around 1100) I seem to have some trouble aiming at long ranges, but for brawling it's a good setting.
Will enabling acceleration do any good?
I've looked through the internet and saw most players prefer not to use it. Also Windows and Mac have it built in to the OS..

Thanks for your input :)

i think the general idea is you want to keep mouse motion linear (acceleration makes it non-linear). for control theory related reasons.

disable mouse accel and also disable, set to zero, mouse smoothing unless you have a really old and crappy mouse.

Reduce mouse sensitivity to 0.1 and raise your mouse dpi through the software till you are happy.

I have both at 0. I find both those settings make my mouse move so damn uncontrollably fast there is no aiming.....

I thought it's supposed to reduce movement at the begining of the scroll and increase it as you go

No, mouse acceleration moves it by a different distance depending on how fast you make the movement. So if you were to move it 3 inches to the left in 1 second, and 3 inches to the left in 2 seconds, the aim reticule would move further the first time than the last.

In twitch shooters (and as far as MWO is concerned it's a mouse twitch shooter as components are very small onscreen and consistent component targeting separates the boys from the men), mouse acceleration is very counterintuitive, as you are more likely to make sharp 'twitchy' small aim corrections as your adrenaline is flowing, and acceleration will over-pronounce those movements, acting as if your mouse sensitivity is higher (thus less accurate) the twitchier your movements are.

Generally that means you'll have a better aim in calm situation and worse aim in hectic situations. The polar opposite of what you want.

Also,it's really bas for hand eye co-ordination as it disrupts your subconscious' ability to learn how sensitive your mouse is. In my UT2004 days, I knew exactly how far to flick the mouse to turn 180. I could do it blind. That's impossible with mouse acceleration.

i play with acceleration on, 2 notches.

i find it really helps me but i already play at 100% sensitivity and i bump up the sensitivity of my mouse in windows to near max

i find that having acceleration allows me to make better snap movements, but i do think it is not for everybody

I don't think it matters too much with this game because the torso twist speed doesn't follow your exact mouse movements as there is a cap on its speed as well as being different for different mechs, so you can't use muscle memory anyway.

you are right but mouse acceleration works with the arms indeed; i have been playing more and i can tell it is the mouse acceleration that allows me to make shots while i twist my torso the other way around. you have to twist and then make a snap movement and the arm will follow it, unlike the torso..

or a more simple technique with mouse acceleration is to swing the mouse wild and let off a shot and with the right ammount of mouse accel it will let the shot rip mid swing of the arm; but this is only for erppc to me in my 2xerppc arm.
really doesn't come into play with other weapon systems much at all

For most people, mouse acceleration is a bad idea. You'd have to be able to compensate for the effect and you'd honestly have to be used to it.

It's generally not recommended if you need precision.

agreed; the only reason someone like me can use 2 notches of mouse acceleration is because i already play with sensitivity to maxed out - but if that is the case for someone they might as well try a little bit of it
