Heh you say foolish... but,

Having a PTS be a disaster and giving them negative feedback on it hasn't stopped them from patching in it before.

-Ghost Heat
-U.I. 2.0
-Clan Balance
-Quirkening

Every step they trip and tumble and not much gets changed before implementation. Hence the disdain towards there "feedback" and hoping things will change.

Not to mention all of the above (with exception to the UI) is what created the balance problem we currently have, PGI keeps adding layers without making sure the prior parts are well balanced.

I'm not saying the game is going to die ( likely won't ), but to be giving PGI the benefit of the doubt for 3+ years is asking a bit much. If you've been trying to balance for 3 years and fail miserably, I think it's time to give that job to someone else. <_<

Fair points. Although I wouldn't say that the re balance is something that was as portrayed as being on a critical path like many of the above items.

The Inner Sphere has always been doomed. When they weren't nuking themselves back in to the Dark Ages, they've been Genocidal in their hatred of people 'not their own' in such a manner as to be doomed even when not using Nukes.

Well, atleast you're talking spacepolitics.

I honestly can't describe this past weekend any better than the Simpsons did

Normally I just like a post and move on if I think it's funny because I generally don't like making posts with little content, but this is just too good.

I can't stop laughing at how accurate this is.

Russ said exactly that two(?) months ago at the previous Town Hall when he talked about the balance pass. That it was going to have some PTS iterations and it wouldn't go live unless the system was better than what we have now based on the testing and feedback.

They forgot nothing. The problem is the "ideas" were so bass-ackwards & pointless that people raged. I'm quite sure you didn't fire any Clan lasers in the PTS, otherwise you'd be raging too. They not only messed with quirks, but they clearly reset clan lasers to their original "glory".

It's one thing for someone to ask "pull my finger" and fart, but to ask "stomp my foot" and they take a baseball bat to your face...

And? The road map specifically says that there will be *full run* play tests in early September. And as I said in my previous post:
The roadmap was targets for the live release with the assumptions that the playtesting was done in early September and that the results were favorable. Pretty obvious both of those are not true.

People are really playing selective memory here just to put PGI to the fire. They have a long history of missing dates (and getting vilified for it) for major feature changes, and yet everyone that is posting that 22nd date as if it was something set in stone that was going to happen hell or high water. Sheesh, double standard there. Should he have updated that they were slipping the date the first week of Sept instead of just on twitter? Sure, no argument from me. But I don't ignore all the other avenues of communication the PGI uses, and in fact most people link them here. The onus of being informed is on the end users, and not everything under the sun is posted in 'General Discussion'. Choosing to ignore other avenues of communication and then posting incorrect information or assumptions is just being willfully ignorant. If being informed qualifies as a white knight, then I guess I'll proudly wear that tag.

I get that the playtest was a disaster and I think there are a lot of things wrong with it, but I am not so foolish to believe that it was going to roll out in anything resembling that form on the 22nd.

It's what the usual suspects do, they hate the game so much, yet are still spending money and playing, the amount of cognitive dissonance they display is nothing short of astounding.

If people follow the tid bits of information we get out of the devs here and there over the years, you realize a few disturbing things.

PGI has to add layers of garbage mechanics to try and balance the game for a reason:
- They are too short staffed to effectively produce the game. They choose not to hire enough personnel. On purpose.
- They fire and / or let go key personnel who created a lot of the original games code (aka, the only people who could properly change the code).
What this means is that they CANNOT go back and properly change the games code. They simply do not know how to do it at this time. They are forced to created new band-aid layers of code, instead of modifying original code.

We have a game built on some broken stuff. The broken stuff cannot be fixed properly. So the only way to change the game is to add "half-arsed" mechanic layers to try and compensate for the broken stuff. Unfortunately PGI tends to create band-**** that are in fact broken themselves. So things keep getting worse and worse.

That is my take on things based on news over the years.

It is sad and scary at the same time. It also explains why it takes forever to get anything done, and few things ever get fixed in any meaningful way. Depressing to think about.
