yes and no it has 8 hard points the others have 7 one in the head which limits it to a small or medium laser and one in the side torso the rest are in the arms so if you louse the arms you are stuffed, the others can bout weapons in the side torso including ballistics or even some missiles. the 5m is a bit weak but the other two are way better. I would beat that the arms on the bounty hunter will be buffed.

timberwolf also has 4/6 of it weapons on the arms instead of side torso but many people don't suffer when it losses an arm....

You are not alone, I don't like it either. I like the Marauder design with a dorsal gun. I'm not a fan of clever angling of the concept model to give the impression it's has a dorsal gun... I feel like we are being lied to, not everyone is observant enough to realize that the cannon they are showing is on the right torso and not the center torso. Perhaps PGI realizes they are incapable of being creative enough to make the dorsal gun design work so they have given us a new design and that is fine, there are plenty of other well done designs to choose from if a few people don't like it. That's not to say that the mech they are going to create won't be good or that I won't buy it. I just don't like that it bears the Marauder name because I don't see it being the same Marauder I know. I would prefer they name it something else.

Of course we could tell the ballistic is in the RT. It also looks like a Marauder. The original dorsal design (despite it also being the Macross look), could even be possible unless there was enough room in the CT to even mount the ballistic, and there wouldn't be, because no matter how you look at it, there just wouldn't be enough room for a large ballistic in the head or CT due to lack of critical space. Now in theory to that, the weapon could of course be in the side torso but the barrel offset to be over the center line. However, this design makes way more sense structurally, especially when it comes to ammo feed. In addition, two more things I'd like to add:

1.) In all redesign attempts of the MAD I've seen, the artist put the ballistic in the RT.

2.) The original design was made in the 80s, and let's face it, a lot of the old concepts suck, even worse for this one cause it was taken from an already used design in Macross, meaning, that original looked like crap. Also, in anime, anything and everything can work if you say it does, and crappy looks can kind of look good, which is why it was able to get away with using a dorsal gun on such a small space (and I think it was a turret too) and those long stupid looking legs and the very thin arms, they just wouldn't be structurally ideal and would have balance and control issues. So basically, what you feel fits the look of a Marauder, is anime influenced, since it looks like the one from Macross.

You know, now that I think about it, I think most of the BT 80s concept models had anime mecha influence (even the Cataphract shared the arm and I think the leg designs from the Marauder). If those designs were built for real, they just wouldn't work right. Now the Marauder, like most of the Alex redesigns, looks bad@$$.

EDIT: I also forgot that Mektek added the Marauder in a pack for MW4:Mercs, and while it did have the dorsal gun (and better looking legs and arms than the orginal), the gun was also a COMPLETELY SEPARATE section that could be destroyed, just like the ears on a Mad Cat, because Microsoft threw critical slots out the windows and was programmed in that way. Since MWO is using the critical slots from the TT, it wouldn't work. And the ballistic weapon was still mounted in the RT regardless.

YES!! This was also my favourite mech to put in a lance when playing the tabletop version (old school, of course). Ah, the good old days of rolling dice.....*just did 10 pts of damage to your left torso....rolling for critical hit....GONE!!*

Actually the Zentradi Glaug's dorsal turret is centered, it doesn't really have a head specifically. The Marauder however according to the rules never had a turret nor anything mounted in the center, thus this art is more accurate to the actual stats we had. No original design should ever steal the Glaug's centerline turret...unless the rules suddenly support that (which would be okay too)

Did you ever read the copyright issues? That and it makes sense as the MAD's gun is in the right torso, rather than above the CT but still in the right torso.

Also I recall seeing many mention about getting two MAD-3R's with the collectors. The way i first read it, I thought it was just going to be one 3R but with a special skin as opposed to the standard pack. I guess if I am getting two of them, I could either run two different builds or just sell the standard one.

The AC/5 on the Marauder has always been located in the right torso.

An AC/5 takes 4 crit slots; there's not enough crit slots in the CT (2 free) and head (1 free) combined to fit it.

So they put it in the RT, but didn't bother to change the cool-looking art to reflect that.

Edit: Here's what the original TRO:3025 (published in 1986) says (highlight mine):

Did you even READ that wiki? The Ballistic is mounted on the RIGHT TORSO. Lifted right from the page: "the center torso Medium Laser was moved to the head to make room for a Gauss Rifle on the right torso" <-- Bounty Hunter Variant. EVERY damn TRO has said the Ballistic has been in the right torso for Marauders. The Reseen Pics of the Marauder all have it on the RIGHT TORSO. the ballistic. is. RIGHT. TORSO. Deal with it. You want your centerline ballistics, you'll just have to wait until Compact Gyros show up.

lol because its a timber wolf im not saying that having a lot of arm weapons is bad it just isn't as tanky as taking torso weapons and if you ain't tanky you need to be quick. plus the marauder bh can only fit one decent weapon in those two spots wile the timber wolf can fit nearly anything with clan tech also the timber wolf rarely has so few non arm weapons in my experience. but again its not about the timber wolf its about comparing a hero mech to its standard variants.

how are you going to fit an ac 5 or grater in the CT or even a ppc? having the gun moved above the head would be awful for hit boxes you could never protect that side torso and when you lost that you would have two weapons left.

Amazing how few people actually read blatantly obvious stuff on pack pages, huh?

What is this reading thing you mentioned? The internet does not understand this. I thought all you had to do was look at pictures. :P

I bought the collector pack, but I'm not interested in the BH. The one I want is the 3R(S). It also has the Cbill boost and it's a 3R. If I can't have the 3D the 3R will do quite nicely and the 5D and the other 5 variant are both welcome as well. This was a no brainer for me, in the 1990s in EGA Multiplayer Online Battletech, my first ever kill piloting a heavy mech was in a MAD-3D, and I spent many hours fighting the Lyran Commonwealth at the end of the Third Succession War in the Rasalhague Military District, and the FedSuns down in Ben-jammin'!

No way I'm missing out on this. No way. And it will be good to see the Warhammer come out so I can shoot them again.
