So the MCY-97 / 99 will be in the game?

Being mentioned in an ISN News Flash is not indicitive of being included in the game.

Mercury? Nice. ComStar training near housing projects? I thought the holy ComGuards didn't have families and live underground in their 'Mechs awaiting deployment?

Sat. July 7, 3049: Com Guard’s salvage MCY-97 Mercury after a training accident sends the high-speed ’Mech careening into housing project.
when I read this all I could think of was Family Guy LOL. The Mech hits the house, falls, scrapes its knee.

Yes a "Training" accident...right....

yes, it probably collided with the business end of a SRM which of course was not launched by infantry positioned in said buildings.. after all, we all know that mercuries wouldn't be sought after by any of the houses since it is so old and useless...

BTW, that throttle sometimes sticks and...well...the control stick may invert its axis at random. Forgot to mention. Also, your pedals will seize under certain conditions. Oh, while were on the subject, the DI computer is randomly rebooting. But there is nothing technically wrong with the engine, I've been told.

and the brakes are not actually connected to the drive train, we just tied the pedal to a bungee cord

Probably just trying to help the locals build some character through some everyday use of terror. Then again sometimes temptation is just too great..."Challenge Accepted!?"

Actually it was known since at least 3039 that comstar had the comguards. Part of the agreement with house Kurita for providing equipment which was used during the war of '39 was that Kurita would allow ComGuard units to guard their HPG generator stations. What wasn't known before 3052 was just how big the ComGuards actually were and just how well equiped they were.

Also HPG generators would generally have been in major metropolis centers as they were used for communications. So if ComGuards were doing training they would probably be doing it in/near their compound so yeah... There is housing in a city therefor that unfortunate risk that the slippery streets would make the Mercury go through it.

Finally as for the Mercury, being a 20 ton mech it would have been used for exactly this sort of duty (guarding an HPG generator). It's combat effectiveness on the battlefield would have been fairly limited but in a built up area against a potential infantry foe it would of been very intimidating. It also would not have been seen as overkill, contrary to say a King Crab or a Black Knight.

I'd love to know where the ComGuards are training that there's a danger of their Mechs wandering into housing projects. I mean, if an out-of-control Mech can go plowing into the buildings, one would think the buildings would also be within weapons range.

Also: It's just like ComStar to be more concerned with salvaging the Mech than helping the people left homeless by their incompetence. One wonders how many people were killed by 20 tons of Mech moving at 130km/ph colliding with a building....

I am sure they don't train near the civilian populace with live ammo. ... Right?
