When do you die when you loose your right / left torso? Sometimes I die wehen I loose a torso sometimes I dont. I always thought its mech based (mechs without arms like Raven, Stalker, Jagermech etc.) but I dont think thats the case anymore.
Is it at a certain % of your life ?

It depends on what engine you have. If you're in an Inner Sphere mech you will die if you have an XL engine and lose a side torso, you wont if you don't. If you're in a Clan mech you die if you lose both side torsos and they only have one engine type.

Centre torso loss always kills you.

Oh... and if you have ammunition in your side torso and no CASE you could die if the ammunition explodes and does damage to your centre torso

Another question slightly related to that:

when i have a standard engine and loose a side torso, do i loose the arm attached to that side too (always)?
Or is it more a coincident that it seems to me that I loose both at same time?

Arms are attached to the torso. If you lose a torso you lose the arm but not the leg.

this is true almost always, however there have been cases - we don't know if it is a bug or not, where your sidetorso is destroyed but the armor of it is not, so the arm stays glued to the still present armor of your nonexistent sidetorso

it seems to happen only by sheer luck that once in a blue moon you lose a sidetorso but keep the arm (and weapons on it)

Yes, it is a bug, we (in the german subsection) have some screens of similar occassion and one of us will make a bug report about this

more information overload:

when you have a STD - engine and lost your side torso - damage is transfered into the CT.
BUT:
if you are hit where your arm was supposed to be - only 50% of this damage hit the Side Torso - but because the Side Torso is missing again 50% of the incomming damage is transfered-

Or in figures:
fighting a AC 20 Mech - instead of getting 20 damage in you intact side - try to take the damage into your destroyed side - 5 vs 20 dmg.

Make sure you change your armor allocation to 90% front

That’s both side torso and front CT

That way you don’t die so fast
also it takes a bit of effort not to die quick stop going out in the open thinking you can absorb damage

Most people do put armor 90+% to the front, and usually that will pay off, if you are fighting similar sized Mechs, but it is not unusual for me to get behind a Mech in a light and kill it, from fresh, in 5-10 seconds, I have done that against even the heaviest Mechs, usually in a Spider, Firestarter, Commando or Jenner.

If you go low armor just bear in mind if something gets behind you you are dead

I believe it's somewhat of a bug when the torso has a sliver of health left but the game thinks it's gone.

If you use XL engines in IS Mechs you need CASE for the ammo. CASE still does not help if a Gauss Rifle is destroyed.

This is entirely wrong. All CASE does is prevent damage from spreading to another section. If you have an XL engine, it's useless. And it does now work protecting gauss rifle explosions. There was only a short period where it did not due to a bug.
