Not sure if I like this: Managed to earn a matchscore of 6 (sorry, mates, for science...) with an old account which placed me 13620th for public queue. I really thought this number would be way higher.

But I guess thats a fairly accurate count of how many accounts have played at least one game since the turney is on. I'll see on tuesday what rank I'll end up in.

pretty sure there are lots of people who can do worse than 6 points out there.

24k active accounts is absolutely terrible, 24k played over the entire weekend as little as one game, Not were logged in at any one time.

As far as MMORPGS goes that's a terrible TERRILE low number.

Far far off the norm. Probably why they hide who is logged in at any one time.

And it gets worse really because their are always people that avoid the events but a lot more people join in for them.

So The actually active accounts number I would bet usually is far lower.

With the active players at any one time being MUCH lower.

Are you really just coming to the realization that MWO has a relatively small playerbase compared to other games?

Don't compare MWO to other games anyway, MechWarrior and BattleTech has always been a different beast and a very niche one at that, though I'd say it has a core playerbase far more attached to this game and IP than most other playerbases.

Yeah you're right its not a roleplaying game, But lets not try to white knight,

A pvp game needs higher numbers more then a MMORPG for balance and wait times.

The numbers are terrible vs almost everything above flash based PVP games on the internet,

There isn't a game I'm aware of at mwos level online with such poor numbers that hasn't already died.

If MWO was going to die it would have a long time ago. Let's be honest in the past year since the IGP split this game has grown in leaps and bounds

Keep playing, and keep contradicting yourself

It is 25k now.

I'm not sure what OP means with active player count, the 24K number just means that many people played at least one game during the event. The interesting number is how many players are online at the same time, since it has a huge impact on matchmaking and wait times. This is of course a much lower number than 24K.

Sure thing, but how many people are actively playing is an important number, too - and this was a good opportunity to catch it.

How many alt accounts sprinkled in there and are those active accounts? Plenty of people quit or tried it and never play.

I wonder how many of those are duplicate accounts?

The number of registered accounts is much higher than 24k, but I doubt that this was a weekend for much alt account activity - most people had their hands full with getting those rewards for the main. So the 24k - 25k now on Tuesday morning CEST - is probably a solid number.

IF there is so many players on, why are the Q times so long!? They arent in CW thats for sure.

Interesting point! No way to number the overlays but even though the number of players in CW is much lower than in the public queue there might be people who played CW exclusively this weekend - which adds to the overall numbers again.

25k logins factor in 1 time log ins the ones who rarely play at all over the entire weekend , 72 hours , over ten hours would average at 2.5k logins a hour.
divide that by 7 i suspect the number of people logged in at any time is lower then 1.5k quite a bit lower.
btw.... Anyone struggling 25,000 players ranked in the entire tournament playing atleast one match.
(which is bad in its self people getting on the board with one game)
Works out on average at 348 people a hour logging in over the entire weekend just did the math , That's really really bad. And I rounded up.

No, wrong. There is a base of 12000+ players who played several hours over the weekend and ADDITIONALLY there are a lot of people within those 12k that played much more. The other half of players who only played a few games comes on top of that.

If you dc in the only game you loaded you get no score and are not counted. If you afk your game and loose with 0 activity you get more points than 6. If you do anything towards your team the points start trickling in. It was damn hard to score only 6.

On Saturday I played my first match in over a week. I wanted to know how many people were playing as well, so I immediately ran from spawn and out of bounds. Died with 0 damage and 15 minutes later I checked the leader board and I was at about 18000. So my numbers agree with yours for Saturday afternoon.

I have to say I thought this game had at most like 10k active players. Rather surprised it is closer to 15k. I'm going to go ahead and assume for a regular week with no event that it is closer to 10k though. The fact that there were 24k people that played this game at all surprises me a lot though. I figured that anybody who played this game did it enough to at least get the tier 1 rewards. Although I suppose even that would have been uber challenging because of rng being a **** sometimes.

Can't do that myself most tournaments. Playtime = time when kids and wife and stuff are taken care of.

This I'll agree with you on. I have a huge list of friends that have been grayed out for a long time. I doubt many will be coming back. I've only seen 3-4 come back, and they did that for NetBattleTech League.

And this I cannot agree with you on. I believe you underestimate how many signed into alt accounts to get free stuff for them. Even just Tier 1 rewards. Not the majority, but still a significant percentage. To bad you and I will never have hard numbers to back up either claim. I'm just going by human nature. Free stuff draws out a lot of vultures. Seen it in office jobs I've had when someone leaves.
