As many players experienced during this recent event, LRMs was a favored weapon because it was easy to deal high damage. I was in many matches where my team just sat and get pounded, not really knowing what to do. Now I know I'm only an average player, most likely Tier 3 (we'll know for sure tomorrow), so the teams I was in were most likely of Tier 5, 4, 3, and 2's. Still, it couldn't hurt to have a refresher.

#1 - I.S. LRMs can't hurt you within 190M. Get in close and all you have to deal with are the backup weapons. If possible, bring a buddy to watch your back and possibly help out in case the LRM boat has an escort. Clan LRMs does much reduced damage in close range, so although you'll receive some damage up close, it won't hurt as much as you letting him pound you from a distance.

#2 - Lights and fast medium. I hate to say it, but it's your JOB to take out the missile boats. Heavies and Assaults are not fast enough to get in close if there is not enough cover. When I play lights, I take it upon myself to see where the LRMs are coming from and try to track down the LRM boats and take them out. Even if you can't kill them outright because they have escorts or have Streaks as backup weapons, you'll still distract them. They have to stop shooting LRMs at your teammates to deal with you. If you have ECM, it's even better. Often you can sneak up behind them and kill them before they realize you're there.

#3 - LRMs need locks. If you're getting missile warning from behind cover and no enemy in brawling range, look for enemy UAV or a spotter. If you have ECM, look for UAV or TAG. Chase away the spotters, but don't waste too much time dealing with them. If you can't kill them quick, chase them away and get back to helping the team. They may come back or they may not, but having 3 or 4 mechs chasing after one light is a disservice to the team.

This recent event, unfortunately, promoted more selfish play to get higher damage and more kills. Hopefully once the event is over, people will get back into teamwork mode and LRM use will fade again.

Its upsetting when you see an UAV with most of the red team in one place and the LRM stream somewhere else. All it takes is a mech that can go over 85kph with a decent alpha to take it down or disrupt it. I type it in and will head off towards them while my team is decimated in one spot.

Also I really wonder why people buy not cheese mechs and do not elite them when they could get Radar Derp and Seismic on an elited mech. It is like adding 3-5 tons more armor. Yup stupidity and bad luck will still kill you quick, but these mods make a big difference.

Just remember, that AMS is more of a "buffer" then a hard counter.

a single AMS hard counters an LRM 5 stream, and can significantly hurt a single LRM 10 volley on chain fire, AMS is also MUCH more effective vs their clan counterparts who stream in missile by missile making AMS more effective.

But always remember that it BUYS you time to take cover, its not a hard counter from not taking damage at all.

If you aren't smart enough to move out of lrms smashing you apart - equip ams.

Also it helps if people don't conga line, but that's not going to change.

LRMs are not a problem because anyone can avoid them. Even if you don't know how to take cover, at the moment you can just take an ECM mech and almost entirely stop them being used on you or most of your team. For 1.5 tons. If you're very lucky they'll try to use TAG and give you a free kill as they facetank your pinpoint direct fire weapons.

A lot of people mistakingly think that AMS only benefits them and they should equip it depending on their competence at using cover. The fact is, AMS has benefit to everyone around you in a 120 meter radius. Sure, in the current meta filled with lasers and Gauss, the AMS does not do much of a job, but during LRM filled event like this one? It definitely pays off. Longer your teammates survive, more they can take fire for you. More they can take fire for you, more damage and score you can accumulate. All for a measly 1.5 ton worth of equipment.

Pssst. It also adds to match score a tiny bit with that protected stuff....
