In Battletech, Mechwarrior series, Internet memes, Living Legends and now MWO there is always reference to a
Stiener Scout Lance that always uses Atlases. I was wondering where did it orginate fromand why. Thx

Not going to dispute the coolness factor, but they don't have BAPs. In fact, most don't have any electronic gear at all.

It comes from House Steiner's historic use/overuse of heavy and assault designs. The running joke is that the Zeus was an early Steiner attempt at a light scout, the Commando is Steiner battle armor and the Atlas is only their mainstay because they couldn't make it any larger.

Just finished a round where one lance in our team consisted entirely of Davion players on BLR-1G's, the heaviest lance of the team. The testament to their scout purpose was probably the fact that it was the only lance in our team to be wiped out entirely, other lances lost 1-2 mechs each, and yes, we won. It was hilarious.

It's a really "safe" method and you can hide yourself behind lots of armor and firepower!
