I sorta expected to be lower tier on my Clan Acct, because the Clan MetaMechs bore me. ANd I have a really bad habit of playing in a Stock Summoner Prime.....and lately a couple hundred straight matches in crappy ShadowCats.

Oddly, while my KDr is a bit lower on my Clan Acct...my W?L anbd Avg XP is significantly higher..... so I guess we can surmise that KDr is the biggest tier factor.

but PGI said its about score not k/d?

also i had a match that upped me, gave me maybe 3 pixels on that bar, which thean means to get to T2 I would need like 150 matches that are upping me. WOW, that feels like you just need to grind to ever get up. Further I have not even played much since the tier judgement happened (jan 15th) so maybe that had some influence. So given you wanted to reach T1 you would need like 600 good matches, which i think definately takes way too long to differ people in skills. And when you somtiems lose, well it will mean oe more good match needed again. That is going to be quite strange.

thinking abotu this and that i also play vs T1's regulary makes this literally a trip to T 1 in maybe around 1.2k games. Just taking how often I net which scores.

Well, I thought I was tier 3, but I've never seen you in a game, so, um, hello Tier 5, I guess? Just when I was thinking I was average, it turns out I might actually be worse, a lot worse. Hah that's funny.

The last 4 months or so, I have barely played. Probably less that 150 drops in that time.
So I can't speak for the PSR era, which is only a month or two old.

But previously, your ranking din]t matter in solo queue. I dropped against Tier 1 guys like Hiemdelight or Audivo in the same matches I had players who couldn't figure out how to get a lock, etc.

I see nothing wrong with that. As long you have fun, no?

I just got myself into Orions. Mini Atlas. Very fun to pilot and i don't carry 'meta'. Very though to play and my tier will probaly end up lower though. Not that i care.

But if you have a account with alot of mechs and your Tier 3/4 then i get the point Lily is making i think. Slap meta stuff in a HBR, pick a DW and shred all these greenies to pieces.

Not very pleasant for both parties as new players get shuffled in these tiers.

I also dislike Tiering not being broken up by weight class. For instance, I am far far deadlier in a Hunchback than I am in Lights, Heavies or Assaults.

So mu sucking in those could artificially lower the reality of my skill level in a Hunchback...which as you say..ain't really fair to me, or my prey.

yeah the missing seperation for weight classes really is odd. I really love my locusts, but since PSR introduction there are more guys who can oneshot me in my matches ;)

I'm surprised as well. The night you and I dropped for a dozen or so matches with the SIN Unit you were doing remarkably well.

Haven't been home to see my own Tier yet though either mind you.

A little off topic, but I see you have a build similar to mine. I'm really enjoying my quad UAC5 Mauler, though I have backup medium lasers. I don't feel right unless I have at least one other weapon system on my mech. Man it is one nasty customer, had a 4 kill match last night, 2 of those were with the MLs after I ran out of ammo.

Did we every get any info on the width of the various tiers? Is it 20% of the player base in each tier, is it a pyramid structure where their are more tier 5s than tier 4s? Is the tiering based off of hard score cut off number so everyone could be in tier 3 if they all scored within the tier 3 range numbers?

Without that info it is really hard to critique the tier you end up in and I bet PGI hasn't given us that info for just that reason.

As someone else mentioned I believe you tier should be set for each group of mechs (Assault/Heavy/Medium/Light) if not by each specific mech type because I know I play better in certain mechs.

I wouldn't describe Tier 3 as a noob tier!.
Plenty players have shown they are Tier 3, and in game they a very much a threat.

well given that T4 is what newbies start with, and there are 3! tier above that and only 1 below that, an average pilot should be T3, a good one T2 and the top T1. T5 the people that are really bad. So I doubt this distribution is well chosen. because my 2 unitmates are real newbies and the skill level between them and me is an abyss. and that They would have to play vs people like me is not correct.
So yes it may be that T3 are supposed to eb a threat, but thn newbies should not be T4's, the real gap here is too wide in terms of playstyle.

Based on this weekend's tournament, match score is at best loosely related to kills and damage. By the end I was regularly picking up over 100 points more than the beginning just by trying to work the system, versus kill the enemy.

doe s anyone know if all Tier "buckets" are the same size? It would make sense to me for Tier 3 to have a larger Bucket than the other tiers, with tier 1 and 5 being smaller.

I was just gonna ask PGI to release the numbers of players in each tier. Don't need to know who, but how many would a good story tell. :D

I don't think the MWO api offers any chances to export and collect the palyers and tiers we see?

population not really what I meant. But since Tier 3 is meant the represent the Mean, it would logically be the largest "Score bar" or "bucket" which each tier moving away in either direction would have a smaller bar, since that would tend to push the masses toward Tier 3, while making being tier 1 or 5 something that takes real effort to maintain.

Chances are it wouldn't be. Tier 4 is meant to be "newbie tier" and I doubt we have a significant portion of the playerbase in Tier 4+5.

However, it's unclear whether if there's a "floating" range/bucket for this purpose. It's kind of necessary IMO, but it's not foolproof (and surely there's an obvious Tier 1 PSR cap).

just want to point out that in the recent finals of that tournament, only a handful people broke the 400 in matchscore, actually i only remember one player in one of the matches.

So matchscore and with it psr rating is not neccessarily acurate when it comes to efficient killing.

and on a second thought, even if you are a bad shot, don't underestimate the experience and understanding of game mechanics new players don't have. And, sadly imo, with more cbills and gxp you can buy straight upgrades in the form of modules that a new player can't.
