New Player - Seeking Credible Advice

I just discovered this game and i quite enjoy the gameplay, the only problem I have is the arduous grind after getting my 1st mech, I know it has been said/asked before, but I'd like some advice from players that are currently enjoying and playing the game.
Is it worth it for a new player to purchase premium time and a hero mech to reduce the grind? Are the earnings substantially better?
If so, what are the best hero mechs to purchase/ grind with?
Thank you guys

Best advice I can offer is be super careful on builds, Try it on smurfy first and check everything twice. One mistake can set you back large c-bills. That's where most of the people I got to join were most discouraged. It makes the grind intolerable.
Once you have mastered you mechs look for seismic sensor and radar derp modules by saving that gxp. Spend it wisely.

Could you recommend a mech or a few hero mechs which perform admirably as credit rollers?
A strong, stable, noob friendly mech is what I'd be after. Heavy or assault perhaps?
Thank you!

Premium time is easily worth it and when you've found your style, then maybe you should get a hero mech.
I'd also suggest joining a unit. Most are fairly chill, with little to no requirements.

MWO isn't balanced very few mechs work well .
Almost nothing can stand up to the clan heavy weights , IS wise.
Weapons balance is almost completely broken . If they ain't lasers or IS AC's you can pretty much forget they exist.
Hope this helps.

As for my playstyle, I really enjoy the Assaults and Heavy mechs, with lots of armor and slow. Powerful weaponry.
What are some good heavy and assaults that fill this niche?

For the new player I would go with the hellbringer. It's fast so you can get out of trouble and has ecm to keep some issue down new players have.

Hero's are odd beasts that you have to know the 'Mechs to make them work. My Yen Lo Wang cranks out C-Bills like crazy, but I am a medium specialist and have a special love for Centurions. I would recommend premium time as a better value if you play regularly. Mastery Packs found in the in game store are one of best values available for those willing to part with the cash.
Really depends on what playstyle you like and what weight classes you want to play as far as advice is concerned.

Tier rank does not always equate to good advice for new players.

^^^^ Do this. That is at least one high rated XL engine for about 30 minutes of play.

you don't do well with sarcasm do you?
Not without context, no, and text is a horrible medium for context. Also helps if someone is a forum regular and I have a baseline for general attitudes to work with.

sadly not many heros are generally not worth it imo (unless there is a hero sale then they can be ok, but even then not really). And TBR ala carts are $55.
But having said that the best value this game offers is mech packs. They give you both premium time and (i) (o) ® mechs which have a hero cbill bonus and in the case of clan mechs you can tailor your loadouts somewhat better to make them effective.

I think after you get more comfortable, then think about a hero if you want one. (I have heroes, don't really play them too much.)

Hunchbacks are great mechs to start off in and the 4J is a LRM spewing mini monster with those LRM10s. Recommend on upgrading your heat sinks to doubles ASAP to manage the heat.
The builds I normally see for this mech is LRM10s but with out Artemis and instead have a TAG laser in the head, it will help with saving some weight.

try different chassis', until you find your preferred playstyle/weapon.
do not(!) commit a lot of money into stuff you will later abandon because it does not suit you.
learn to use smurfy: BL-6-KNT
never spend GXP to level a mech!
PS:
Smurfy is an online tool where you can 'dress-up-doll' with mechs. the above loadout is just an example to provide the link!!!
PPS:
know, that upgrading from standard to double heatsinks is expensive, AS IS downgrading again!!!
that cost me some money early on :-(

Well I am a bit surprised you have so few credible responses. Maybe its the time of the day because there are some very good players/trainers on the forums. Guys I follow and I have been here a long time.
As far as recommending mechs as other have said its playstyle more than anything else that would lead me to recommend. I drive Atlas, Crab, Banshee, Highlander and Dire. Owned all of the IS assaults though at one time or another. I have a lot of fun in the gauss crabs, its my most used after the atlas. Gauss is a high hill to climb though. If your good at it its a weapon of choice.
In heavy's I like the yeager and the phract. The yeager is my most consitent c-bill earner. Again its up to your playstyle. I like the phract because as it translates into the Atlas and crab with low slung arms.
My best advice is to find the next mech you feel somewhat comfortable in after what your using now so weapons loadout locations will be important. High or low/torso. Once you have found that sweetspot you can use those as a primary and venture into mechs a loadouts that might take a while to learn and master. Just remember its all a progression so don't jump around at first. Get the basics down, earn some cash then experiment. Good luck and keep coming back and reading whats hot.
