the problem is also that what mech you pilot has a huge effect of your effectiveness, no matter how skilled you are, if the mech is badly designed, ALA Black Knight, you are not gonna get much change out of it

you can. steering wheel turns your mech. pedals for forward and backward.

and you use a joystick with your other hand for aiming

and then you can be a proud member of the tier five underhive.

Nope--- not me do you want to trade

I got one shot by that guy theb33f early this morning
I was thinking what is he doing down here with the scrub tier 3s' but now I realize if you do a lot of group play you probably won’t be as high as you think since your more of a team player

Also in pug land its kill or be killed (or used to be)
I spent close to 120 million c-bills on my TWs'

I say I am tier 5 but my streak wolf is tier 1 so it’s probably right for me to be in tier 3

I wonder if you get points for escorting assaults you know instead of running off to do your own thing

I would be surprised if the B33F had a high tier -- he tries so much crazy stuff. You can't keep a high tier and play anything other than meta for the most part. One of the disadvantages of pushing the envelope?

Hopefully people figure out that tiers aren't the be all end all of mwo. I remember really days of MWO pretty fondly back when I was playing with people that seriously used lrms and where non optimal builds were viable and fun. I'm only mid tier 3, but that means in often facing meta mechs and unless I bring my good mechs it's just frustrating. I can be top 4 most games in my good performers, but for me a lot of the fun is trying new weird builds and leveling up crappy mechs. Doing so can be really really frustrating, though. It would be nice if there was done sort of compensation mechanic for non elite skill mechs do they didn't have to put you against high skill people when you're mech is a huge liability. Hopefully someday when the skills tree gets redone it won't be as much an issue. Anyhow I digress. There are good players in all the tiers. There is just an increased likelihood that high tier players are into the min max meta game. That's not necessarily more fun. Just different.

Tiers should have their names changed to :

"I am a Clan Meta Mech Obssessive compulsive" tier (1)
"I Clan & IS Meta Mech" competitive tier (2)
"I play fun optimized mechs" regular player tier (3)
"Lets see how this works I've never tried it before" tier(4)
"I don't care about damage I want MORE FUN! FIRE ALL THE FLAMERS!" tier(5)

And yes, you are penalized for not playing a meta-TBR. Just accept the craptastic nature of that function of PSR. I accept that I am in the Tier I am because I play, almost exclusively, light mechs (meaning 90% of my games are in lights).

So when I'm playing solo queue and I do good but my team gets stomped, I still go down or maybe stay equal. It just makes me angry seeing that red arrow after a decent game like somehow the game is telling me I still suck. I only have fun now driving lights and capping, but even if my team wins when I do no damage the best I can hope for is equal. Before this teir system the psr seemed to be giving me a fair shot at balanced matches. Now it's just bad team stomp after bad team stomp. I'm not having as much fun. Remember PGI your marketing team at the launch event said it best. We founders and people that buy your packages are your customers. The free players are content. I'm having a blast with some other games right now. Maybe I need to funnel more of my dollars towards them.

Play some games before work and I have two criticisms about being in tier 55 that bother me the most. The first is we're good at regrouping and sticking together but the standing still and being surrounded needs to be addressed. I know most want to snipe and are afraid of being shot but standing still isn't the thing to do. Passive players always lose. The 2nd issue I'd like to address is the lack of focusing down people. It's fun to solo people and test your skills but when one team focuses fire and the other does not it leads to a roll. I'm far from being the best but even in tier 5 we should do these basic teamwork things. There's probably other areas that myself and others need to work on. But I think these two would make the game more enjoyable for the lot of us.

Get better, scrub.

Look on the bright side. In Tier 5 you don't get to play against Tier 1 and 2. So no enemies with mad meta builds and reaction time of a StarCraft world champion.

That's what I do too. Despite the Myst Lynx being trash it must be leveled.

The way I see T5 is no one expects me too be meta. So I can play my crazy no laser timber build with no one complaining about it :)

Report everyone who complains you aren't playing the game their way.

I will relearn how to play well in time but in the end it comes down to team working together and winning games for me to advance. I also do a lot of group play which is leading extra losses.

I actually think I have more fun in tier 4 than 5, just because I am a pilot that generally doesn't like to see new players...like a guy in a mc paid for mech turning at the speed of snails with max zoom up chasing a locust with lrms at 10 meters.

*face palm*

I will forever be stuck in tier 5, because for every awesome 800+ dmg game I will always have that one where everyone dies fast and I wind up getting swarmed.
(but yes it is more fun to be away from the meta players.)

The tier system is garbage anyways, it's nothing more than a giant xp bar that rewards spreading damage and punishes killing enemies in a timely manner.

Lol I dropped from tier 3 to tier 4 in the space of a few hours play :D
All leveling of mechs should now cease.

There's nothing wrong with being tier 5. You really shouldn't look at it as a badge of shame.

At the end of the day, the skill of players will always vary by quite a lot. I can guarantee that your gameplay experience will be absolutely appalling if you were constantly grouped with tier 1 and 2 peeps.

It's all about trying to make the game more enjoyable for you, regardless of how 1337 pr0 you are.

I'm dead centre of tier 2 and I still get smashed to pieces within a couple of minutes then in the next match get 1k+ damage
