Is there a way to fool the Seismic sensor by traveling below a certain speed or something?

Nope. Staying out of it's range is better. That's why i like having a flexible weapon loadout.
Even if you don't get the opportunity to strike at very close range you can still hurt them with longer reaching weapons.

To the OP.

I'm new here as well, and am also sort of familiar with BattleTech. But you know what, I just jumped in playing a light mech so I could run around, see what was going on and try to get a fee for the maps quickly (as opposed to lumbering around like a mechanical Frankenstein).

Seriously, don't worry about being a burden to the team. As long as you are actually trying and observing, you'll do fine. After I die, I typically spectate to see how other play. It's pretty educational. There are some really good players out there.

But I saw people still standing at the starting point, just absolutely non-responsive.
I saw players just run around the very far edges of the map ... just running.
I saw players just turn and run, exposing their rear armor, instead of walking backwards, firing.

The best way to learn is to play. Just get out there, try your best, stick with your teammates, and give 'em hell.

Also find a quality group of players (key word quality) to learn from. Will help shorten the process for you immensely and you should make some friends along with it.

The most important quality is probably that they won't start abusing their teammates as soon as they die.
If a player calls his entire team a bunch of #!"%)#&% as soon as they die they are not worth your time no matter how good they are at doing damage to the enemy team.
There are plenty of corps (guilds) out there where they make a point of only recruiting mature players who have their emotions under control.

i understand why the advise is given but in this case, someone who shows competency, the best advice there, is avoid the nub cannon, its a trap that will keep you in a spiral of mediocrity

I understand that as well, but no one here has suggested any of that, and even then, they still wouldn't be wrong. OP is new, this is the perfect time for him to experiment with all the weapons in the game. The sooner the better, because if he's this good, he's gonna jump up the tiers quickly, and reach a point where he can't good off and learn weapon systems without suffering brutally for it.

For the record, I'm of a similar mindset to yours, telling OP to stick to LRMs would be the wrong move. Trying them? Sure, sticking to them? nope.

I made a nice easy tutorial just for new players and I have other tips on playing for new players on my youtube channel. I would say that you should not feel afraid as its only a game with other people and well nothing happens to you when you lose a match except for c-bills and such but thats very easy to get back.

I know I used to be anti PVP myself for a long time playing games but once I stepped my foot in the water it helped knowing that its only a game and I play for fun. There will be A HOLES out there but thats with every society in everything you do and its only on how you deal with them determines if they effect you or not. Only you can let someone else effect your mood/life/ or anything in general because you let them inside your mind...

If you need help or someone to hang with on to show you the ropes in a private match let me know I have Teamspeak and we can get you going...

That much damage in the Locust can you be on my team plz!

Great work keep trying different things.

I know you may hate me for say this but Lrm's can help new players transition to direct fire load out's.

I steer with my Foot, i have one hand. LRM's helped me learn common firing lanes.
Med lasers on my HBK-4j helped me learn where to/ how to aim, and when i made a mistake and survivied i could still apply some suppressing fire with the lrm's while badly damaged.

Just dont count on em for kill's great for kill assist if used mostly for suppression.

The Trebuchet trial mech is what i liked outta the trial's , or the Mad dog with the better direct fire.
Helped me alot to follow along and watch other's while i learned. Hanging out spectating when i blundered into an early death.

Haha, certainly not the norm, most matches is much less. I am considering purchasing Wave III pack, so will be able to try medium/heavy/assault.

It's kind of fun to think of people sweating in-front of their monitors.
