I think that sooner or later players would get bored with AI doing the same moves and using the same playstyle. Multiplayer could help with keeping people interested in the game longer.

That's why this isn't going to be a free to play business model game. Future expansions or sequels to the game are what will keep players interested.

Additionally, it is the 3025 setting... so only basic IS stuff, no DHS, no endo, no XL, no pulse... good old times...

I guess that can definetely be nicely balanced.

I'm going to assume you mean "balanced" in terms of a PvP aspect if that goal is reached? If so, the tech levels you list are not any more "unbalanced" than mixed forces of mechs, vehicles, infantry, etc... being fielded in 3025 settings.

Generally speaking, that's true.

However, there were three important exceptions, three sources of advanced weapons and equipment:
  • Star League caches - S.L.D.F. storage bunkers.
  • Great Houses prototype equipment and prototype BattleMechs.
  • ComStar having warehouses full of mothballed pristine BattleMechs, often centuries old.

Yes, I mean PVP balance. Less weapon and equipment types are way easier to balance than MWO (especially because BT will be turn based).
I really think this will be a fun and engaging PVP game with no drawbacks for the single player experience.

The PvP they will have if we reach that goal is Solaris VII 'mech arena combat; it's unlikely you'll be able to field your mercenary company against other players' mercenary companies on the regular battlefield.

'Mech-on-'mech combat in 3025 is pretty well balanced.

All of which are quite unlikely to make it into the game, especially not the PvP parts (if we get them).

So far the game has reached over 2 million dollars with its funding and it almost has a week left before it finally gets funded.

Have you bought in Will? I want to play against you and Roadbeer if we get PVP.

Yep, I bought the House Scion Tier just for the faction gear. I'm going with Steiner Gear once it comes out. What about you Ed?

I was originally a Scion, but real life intervened and I downgraded to Valhalla. Honestly, I have no use for the physical items anyway.

The dynamic mission generator will keep the single player campaign interesting and I am sure that there will be DLCs in the future to add more missions / story, but yes, the PVP will be awesome. I know that myself and many of the other oldschool MWO players will be all over it.

Since we will be fielding lances, it will be mostly balanced, but is not always intended to be completely even. This is a battle simulator and battles are not always fought on equal terms. If you are the underdog, you will have to win with superior strategy and tactics.

Plus, the 3025 era was when BattleTech was "Game of Thrones" in space.

I think you mean Game of Thrones (1996) is BattelTech (1986) in medieval times! =P

I use that description too since the GoT story is more recognizable/comprehensive to non-Battletech/MechWarrior fans.

P.S. Sorry that you had to downgrade... I've been waiting since the KS went up because I have RL stuff too. I won't know if I can get anything until after the 30th (cutting it close), but I really REALLY want a House Davion flight jacket. B)

Actually, even the very first BattleTech scenario pack from 3022 (developed by Jordan Weisman) pitted the player against enemies using 'Mechs equipped with advanced tech.

In HBS's latest Q&A they said PVP would be balanced by BV and you would be able to enable customization, or stock mech mode! This is music to my ears, a BATTLETECH game balanced the way it was intended!

So far HBS are near the funds towards adding Legendary Mechs and Mechwarriors along with another Twitch Stream next week.

I'm ok with the pvp. There's not a lot of min/max you could do with Single heat sinks in 3025. Sure there are star league caches, but the one with DHS doesn't come out until much later (the later part of 302x i think, with its first implementation in 303x or 304x)

Remember, you will have a lance of mechs which are in various states of disrepair and so will the enemy. Victory will be more about using the right combination of mechs for the terrain and using the terrain effectively.

I guess that can definetely be nicely balanced.

That also means no gauss rifles T.T

So,it's pretty much gonna be lasers, PPCs, autocannons, and LRMs/SRMs. No streaks, no ERPPCs, no Gauss, no UACs.... We might see mech artillery though. Long Toms were about.

Yep, easy choices:

S/M/L Lasers
PPC
AC/2,5,10,20
LRM 5/10/15/20
SRM 2/4/6
MG
Flamer

And that's it. Everything viable, no clearly superior weapons. Just, nice, old school stuff.

(Edit: forgot the flamer... me stupid... ;) )

I don't see the multiplayer as a needed feature but it would be a welcome extra to the main game. With that said less than 400k to go till PvP is reached.

Let's get $2.5 million for PVP, that will make the game last for many years. I can just imagine the tier competition where the gameplay is less about min-maxing and more about tactics!

People just might get attracted to the next new shiny and move on, so pvp may not necessarily add longevity.

Still, pvp will add an additional extra for those looking to challenge themselves or others.
