I brought up something like that, and there was much whining, and complaining about 4 mastered mechs being too much. So we dropped it down to 4 mechs at full elites.

That's still not terrible, and it even requires 86k less overall xp to achieve.

The sad part is that any game with any sort of end-game or competitive content has gates to get there. League of Legends is one of the gold standards that games get compared to for gating which requires very little . . . maxed out level and enough of a character roster that, no matter what, you have an option (10 characters: even if every other hero in your roster was chosen by your teammates and opponents, you've still got one left). Even Marvel Heroes has gates to get into its "Cosmic" (read: Hardest) patrol zones, and it's an ARPG style game (like the Diablo series).

Setting some sort of gate for CW of MWO is not asking much, and frankly it's somewhat necessary . . . especially with a Steam Release looming whenever they get impatient enough, on waiting for features, to launch it there (quoted from the last town hall, no less). It's the "end game" of MWO. It's where the hardcore unit competitiveness happens.

It shouldn't be something that the ranking FNG goes and drops into. That actually diminishes game quality for everyone, not just the FNG who decided to go somewhere he wasn't ready for.

it's 16 champions btw. accounting for 6 bans, and 9 other players than you.

For some reason I was thinking it was only 10, then I realized why . . . the 6 trial champions they put out there.

Anyway, regardless, MWO really needs a lot before it gets to steam. The Tutorial was one giant leap for what it needed. Gating mechanics, while not absolutely necessary, are something the game really could use (just in general), and gain great benefit from. It's something that really should happen before a Steam release.
