To everyone who have chat disappearing when you or the guy you are spectating dies:

Ctrl A. Ctrl C, click next, Ctrl V. Continue. There you go. Takes like 3 seconds. On Macs its the command button instead of ctrl.

I know, I know, it still really sucks, but at least you can avoid losing everything and you guys make it sound like the end of the world.

pressing 'enter' works for me

By that logic, turning in an assignment your boss gave you before its complete also works for you.

1.) BUG
It constantly swallows my sent messages.
- Never experienced this.

2.) BUG
Change of scene (e.g. being pushed from your wreck to spectating a player) clears the current input.
- Yes, this a BIG annyoancce.

3.) BUG
Sometimes characters remain in the buffer and can only be cleared by panik-ly hitting "i enter" several times
- Nerver experienced this.

4.) BUG
Sometimes typing TO FAST interprets the letter as a command
- Never experienced this.

5.) BUG
Change of scene removes or rearranges system messages (X has killed Y, X has disconnected, etc.)
- Minor issue. Nothing I worry about.

6.)
Missing scroll functionality
- Would be appriciated. Simply using scrollwheel when dead should scroll chat.

7.)
Missing chat windows relocation and resizing functionality
- Nothing I miss.

8.)
Missing filter functionality
- Nothing I miss.

9.)
Missing copy&paste.
- Oh please god, no. The spam would be unbearable.

10.)
Ideally color customization.
- Nothing I miss.

To sum it up, nr 2 is the big one. Yes, it's very annoying. I have yet to experience the rest of the bugs besides 5 which isn't a biggy, and most of the wanted features are fluff.

Nothing worth making a big rage post about...

Remember how long it took them to fix the backspace key's non-functionality in the chat box? lol

That in turn added the "commander control activation" by using JJs bug.

All PGI has to do is copy Leag's chat function.

I've experienced most of these bugs including the JJ bug. You dismiss most of the bugs as things they dont really need to bother fixing yet they are all tied together in 1 useless chat system. An overhawl is absolutly needed to meet the standard quality of the gaming invironment. It makes no sense to have a beautifull designed game and have a 3rd world country type chat box from the beginning of the cold war. I feel like when I'm using the Ingame chat box I'm relying on *****, Tubes, and clunky floppy disk technology, and a hamster wheel to boot. The game premotes future warfare yet uses ancient chat technology lol.

Bug #1 is so very annoying. Often enough it is the decision between either trying to dodge incoming fire, or risking hits while typing that important warning because every second counts. Losing a good amount of armor just to have the chat swallow that message is such $§%&.

Obivously you dont play much because I see most of these bugs every time I play, and I usually only play for 1 week a month... Also from your post, you dont care about quality with in-game UI's....You arent really qualified to discuss in-game issues since your bar is set soo low.

Concerning #1: It doesn't only swallow stuff you sent yourself, it is also dropping a good deal of what other people are saying. Noticed when I started pointing out individual messages over TS to the guy I usually group up, we often just don't get the same message feed from the chat system.

At the very least the 3 year old bugs need a fix.

Things like an scroll bar, separate the combat and chat logs, copy and paste or colour customization are trivial work.

Other things that i'd love to see is comunication not limited by the current match, as in talking from the mech lab to a friend in a game; Or the ability to share a build by using a link in chat.

i would add a few features

1: put in an opt in swear filter. get rid of ban threats for foul language and replace a system where you can choose what you want to put up with. after all lively banter is part of games and shouldn't be suppressed. circumventing filter of course would be an offense.

2: enable voip in lobbies or anywhere else there is a chat box.

3: scrollbars, pls.

These messages are probably disappearing into the same hole most of the SRM missiles seem to fly into.

I agree that the in-game chat is awful, but I don't see why you need to get so worked up about it.

The reason I'm worked up is because this topic has come up hundreds of times in the past, and was ignored constantly by the player community and PGI. Because of that, and since the majority of the players just ROLLED OVER on the subject 3 yrs later we are still dealing with it. I will Zombify this topic over and over till PGI recignizes its importance or locks the topic. MWO isnt a pvp game and is not complete without a good Communication tool.

It can be triggered by any button. I've had it trigger from space, numpad 0, t, enter, and various other keys.

These features have been broken forever, and are super annoying. As a developer, I could probably fix 2,3,4, and 5 in a day or two depending on how messed up their code base is. Long standing, easy to fix bugs reflect poorly on the developers skills.

I suggest we all send an e-mail to support@mwomercs.com requesting these are fixed ASAP. I used to report pretty much every known bug after every patch, and surprisingly managed to get a dozen or so bugs looked into, but not this one or the command bug. I think it's about time this got addressed.

Considering PGI's track record of dealing with other issues, I doubt that players "rolled over" on the issue, rather they gave up complaining about it because they knew PGI wouldn't do anything about it for a long time, which is exactly what happened regardless of the number of complaints.

Maybe it's on their list of things to fix after other things, like the mech skill tree, but it might also be like ammo switching i.e dead in the water...who knows.

I imagine it's not a high priority because the in-game chat is still functional, but yeah clearly it's not very good.

I know a Developer who works for Ubisoft who designed GTO5 and he said the same thing, basicly what you just said about the coding. The chat coding would be a 1-2 day fix at most and He could design a state of the art 2015 Chat box that had every feature we've been wanting within a weeks time by himself.

I asked him if he could work a deal with PGI but he is liscenced and cant lol. Breach of Contract unfortunatly.

Heres what I would like to see in a new chat system.

1) Multi Selective Color Tool for Friends/team/party/clan/unit tool bar With an option to change command badge colors within your Lance.

2) Scrolling Feature is a given

3) Font and Sizing tool With Large bold tabs for easy to click on tool windows for editing chat.

4) Pointer Size Editor The ability to change the size of my Curser would be amazing.

5) Reporting Feature I don't mean relying on Screen shots, I mean an actuall Tool or Tab you press that automaticly saves the chat time, location, player name, and mech. This should have been designed into the game from the get go.

6) Build In Screen Capture This should have been hardwired into the game just like the Reporting feature years ago. I hate games that rely on 3rd party capture tools that dont always work.

7) Void in Lobbies Someone asked this earlier

8) Chat Ability While Que Searches This seriously pisses me off more than anything. Not being able to reply to someones message just as our Unit Drops or Party Drops and you accidently hit enter after you finish typing and it cancles the drop. You should be able to talk all the way up to the point your party loads into the map.

9) CW Chat Menu much larger I've complained about this problem in the past many times, not being able to read CW drop chat before our launch. The menu is so tiny. Why is this feature so rediculously small?

10) Communication tools What I mean by this is, I want to see easy to navigate tooling. Confortable Drop Down Tabs, descent sized buttons, auto accept features that prevent you from loading into your hanger but still allows you to view what items you've unlocked. Load times from place to place is rediculous in this game, and not being able to talk to someone while you load back into your hanger or save a mech. MAKE THAT SEPERATE from chat!

11) Ingame Unit Chat Ability The ability to recieve and send Messages to friends or unit buddies while in a game. Having a Pullup menu of your Unit and Friends. Assigning a Hot key for Unit/friends you were just talking to or everyone. There should be a private or all chat to friends and units while in game, having the ability to decide who you want to talk to or select names of who you want or dont want to talk to.

I will add more later as they come to me.

This game was released as a minimally viable product, 2 years later it is still a minimally viable product with more mechs. I think it is time to aim a little higher.
