Laser 60% Thingy Change?

My SPL's are 121 meters range. If I do not lock my target as I am running at 152 KPH and strafing as I go then my damage is reduced by 40%?
I play a Jenner D mostly with 4 SPL's and 2 SRM 4's. I try to lock targets when i can, but every light pilot will tell you its just not an option at times, especially if they are massed together and the computer decides to target the wrong mech.
So what are light mechs suppose to do with this change? Seems to me that the Small and Small Pulse will be hit the hardest with this change.
Or am I just wrong in the way this works?

No one else sees a problem with this for lights?

Move your mouse over a mech it will change. Really the lock means nothing if you're within the range you dont need to lock.
And if your worried about smaller lasers this is just a test. They might change this for each level of laser or lights might get quirks for this too.

Personally I'd pretty well bet that SL/SPL will be set at 85-90% range without target as they get adjusted.
Also, I guess I personally didn't have any problem with it when running a commando with a SL. Kite and Juke, play your speed and maneuverability for the positions you want and need.

If it's not written down then it does not exist.

Usually I'm one of those hater's that would be railing on Paul right now. Unfortunately this system actually makes sense once you start to see more of it and they take the time to communicate the things they are trying with us.

But then again I liked the idea of ghost heat initially...

Yup, and when they do a good job on something they will get praise. I am sorry, my hopes are not set very high on anything PGI does right now, they have a steep up-hill climb still. And many of us feel that way.

Yes, we are all aware that this is just a test, but it is something they are considering. So expect to see a lot of people complaining/praising/etc. because that is what needs to happen.

I'm all for discussing for/against it. But the vast majority of the against thus far has been -it's bad, it's stupid, why?- with very few people actually willing to in any way shape or form have any sort of discussion that is counter to those particular points.
A few that will, most of the against has come across as nothing more than being part of the "I hate change" crowd. And that's unfortunate.

Under the current system, when I do a strafing run my over all damage is decreased as hitting the Target key is just one more thing I have to do now. Prior to this I would have to Maneuver, Speed Up , Slow Down (TO break consistency in movement), Jump Turn, Look for a way out, and fire all at the same time. You only have so many fingers.
Add to that the reduction in C-Bills as you are NOT doing the damage you used to do and its very evident. They are going to HAVE to change this system if they wish to keep it based on Chassis. I mean for me to do optimal damage without targeting, I have to be within 73 meters. What do you want me to do, Tap dance as well?
