After buying phoenix i say NO

Phoenix Project was the best example of how PGI should handle mech releases.

This new experimental model will just end up making people NOT WANT to buy.

I can understand that make the unseen reseen again might have been difficult so i'm hoping it limits just to this unseen mechs that are coming and nothing more. After that please go back to the phoenix project model , is best we had till date.

Steam release is closing in, and PGI know (now they cooperate with BT game), that they can finaly raise up $ for packages after 3 yrs... and push $ form hc fans.

They know , when there is enough crazy people (StarC****n) you can skyrocket anything.....

(im not saying its good)

It's silly that they don't do both for every pack. Each chassis and its variants for a decent price, and also a larger pack for a slightly better value. A Hero variant can be purchased at a reduced cost for each chassis you have already purchased.

They're only shorting themselves money.

Honestly, i think this one by one system only works with the Marauder and Warhammer since they are popular enough by themselves. i think the Archer would be the last one that would work as it's own pack as it is a fairly iconic fire support platform. (and has it's own "hero" version).
I expect the Stinger, Wasp, Valkyrie, Phoenix Hawk, Rifleman, Crusader and Longbow to all come in a "Project Phoenix II" Pack.

Would you like a Crusader with the option of a Rifleman reinforcement or the other way around?

I would've rather paid $20-$25 for a collector's variant and two standard variants, in addition to the goodies that come with the $20 pack.

As it stands now, I will probably just get the $20 pack and maybe get the hero add-on, that way I get four unique variants to play around with.

Meh...

would be nice if we could use MC for this, too. I mean we paid hard money for that.

but no, MC is more and more worthless in this game.
I guess there are still founders with their initial MC...

Its smart to mix up their catalog offerings a bit. Single mechs, multiple mechs. At this point I am 100% sure they wont be relying on mechs forever.

They got a long way to go to make a full game still and also a long way to go to have well rounded premium content.

So far so good though. Everything they offer, game play and mechs is excellent quality.

Eventually, the pricing will have to change.

For a 70 or 75 ton Hero Mech, you will need approximately $20 worth of MC ($25-ish if you don't buy the $100 package). So, adding $15 for the Hero Marauder/Warhammer is a pretty good deal. Hero Mechs, when not on a special sale, are 75 MC per ton.

When they come out with a smaller Mech, something that requires less than $15 of MC to purchase (or pretty much anything under 45 tons), they will need to change the pricing model a bit. At that point, waiting to buy it for MC when it comes out is the smarter option.

I don't like the small package pricing purely from a retail stand point. If you want people to spend more money, they have to get more. "Buy 4, get 1 free" mentality. Right now, you can get 3 Mechs for $20 (or $6.66 each), OR you can buy 4 Mechs where one of the Mechs is just like one of the original Mechs but different color for $40 ($10 each). So a C-Bill boost Mech is worth $20 cash.

I also do not like how these Standard collection single Mech releases do not include a C-Bill boost Mech. If you have to PGI, make it $25 and give me one special C-Bill boost Mech +2 others, then charge me $5 more for a fourth variant, and keep your Hero Mech addon. Even with the past collections they used a better sales process. Clans: $55 for 1 variant a-la-cart, $100 for 2 variants, or hell, $240 to get all 8. As you bought more, the price per items went DOWN, not up.

I don't see now why they can't do both. The principle reason I like the smaller offer is that I'm hopeful that it's going to teach PGI that selling stuff for LESS can make them MORE money.

However, I would assume that the larger packs would have to reflect a much "easier on the wallet" price point now.

I appreciate that they are offering a single chassis with 3 variants for $20....however, for the c-bill buffed variants, I would rather see them release the collector's packs versions with 4 chassis including a c-bill-buffed variant of each for $80 instead of making it a single chassis for $40.

So basically, if you only want a mech chassis or two from a pack, you can buy them individualy without the c-bill-buffed variant for $20 each...or you can spend $80 for the collector's pack and get 4 of them with c-bill buffed variants included. This would be a nice compromise.

There have been good features of both ways. I have purchased both types of package. If they were to develop a schedule like 1 IS Wave 4-pack per year, 1 Clan wave, and alternating IS/Clan single-packs in between those I think that would give us the best options.

(The Waves could even bundle some of the single-pack mechs - depending how many of those there are, could go to 2 waves per year. Maybe 1 'All-Original' Wave pack mid-year, and 1 'Bundled' pack near year end)

That being said, I've stated before and will state again, PGI needs to work on some decent, steady income/monetization plans that DON'T require endless mech purchases. New mech packs are nice but I don't think they should represent 90% of their income stream (for the long-term good of the game).

Bear in mind that the additional $20 for the collector's pack includes not just the C-Bill bonus 'mech, but more premium time and cockpit items. Is that all really worth an extra $20?

And right now it appears that anyone can upgrade anytime too. So theoretically, if you wanted to get the collector's edition C-Bill bonus Marauder after it's dropped, you can still upgrade and get everything that comes additional with that package.

EDIT: It appears that the stuff you get for $20 more is worth more than $20, between the C-Bill bonus 'mech, the additional cockpit items, and the extra 30 days of premium time.

I think they should do 2-mech packs. So that they can cycle between Clan and IS faster.
