Of course, by this point, people might not remember what "good" tastes like, and new generations might not know any other flavor, and thus just stay in an endless cycle of pepperoni vomit, under the assumption that it is the only way that can be good.
Agreed, it's similar to how everyone watches people eat pizza in a counter-clockwise fashion. The original reason is lost to the new generation, but when new people see it, they follow along assuming it's the only way to eat pizza.
So then what should be done? We can tell the new generations of how pizza used to taste, or why Flavor of the Month pizzas got us to this state to begin with... but that doesn't change the current disconnect between customer and chef's interpretations of why people eat the pizza they do. Changing the box the pizza is in, how it's sliced, or how its assembled might make a better presentation to tempt people to buy it, but if all they get is the same flavor it's going to continue to lead to upset customers.
More often than not.... when the quality of the toppings of the pizza are up to par, people like to experiment more... but if the only thing that tastes good is pepperoni... then despite presentation people will get upset and bored even with pepperoni.
But since this is the only shop that serves this kind of pizza for miles around... you either force yourself to eat it, or go to McDonalds.
