The definitive anti-aircraft 'Mech, the Rifleman was first fielded in 2505, making it among the first 'Mechs ever built. Its combination of long-ranged weaponry, including rapid-fire autocannons, and its excellent Garret D2j targeting and tracking system ensured it would remain a viable battlefield unit through half a millennium of combat. When pressed into combat against ground units, the Rifleman is merely adequate, suffering from light armor protection, poor heat management, and limited ammunition supply. It is particularly noted for its thin rear armor, a weakness for which its ability to reverse its arms only partly compensates. The Rifleman is far more successful when used as a fire-support 'Mech, and five centuries of combat have provided many triumphant examples of its employment in this role.

Does this mean we can finally blow those fracking immortal dropships out of sky :)

With our mechlab? I wouldn't bank on any printed weaknesses.... It's still has a specific weight and all mechs of that weight can equip the same amount of armor.

And yes, I like to shoot dropships too.

You both are forgetting the KGC-000b, HGN-732b, and BL-6b-KNT. We've had a Royal mech since the King Crabs hit for MC, almost a year ago.

not forgetting, just didn't feel the need to make an exhaustive list. Point being we have several. And IMO, that the 1b HXH gives the chassis a much needed difference in hardpoint layout.

Unfortunately (never statted) it was rumoured (in game) that Gray Notan's mech was both over-tonnage (~85 tons) and either Star League or Clan-tech.

Both would preclude its inclusion in MWO, due to lore.

being statted is irrelevant, as most of the Heroes, even of known mechs (most were simply stock anyhow).

Also, if it were Star League Tech, (the Solaris box set was the origin of these theories, if I recall, and I don't recall clan tech being a theory) that is not an issue, as....so are over half the mechs in game. The IS has access to SLDF tech.

Over tonnage would be an issue, but that is a vague, rumour without any actual credible details.

And we do know that it carried a stock 3N loadout, with stock "tissue paper" armor, light ammo, and standard HS, as all that is described in the Warrior trilogy when Justin Xiang is fighting Philip Capet in Ishiyama. So chances are much higher that it was stock, than anything. (Especially since unless he was a magician, actually maintaining and fixing a star league mech in the 3025 era would be nearly impossible (unless one had a huge stash of parts), and as aboth a gladiator and gun for hire, it would be getting fixed...a lot.

The more likely answer is simple: Assault Mechs were super rare, and nearly non existent on Solaris at that time due to cost. Even most real good front line heavies would be actually out on the front lines. The majority of mechs were beat up retreads (just read the specs for any of Snords, or the Black Widow Mechs in their source packs) usually with patchwork armor, missing or malfunctioning weapons and damaged heat exchange systems. On a place like Solaris, where the mechs are getting shot to crap weekly, even more likely at this time. In light of that, simply being a truly elite, (0p/0g) crack pilot in a fully repaired and functional RFL-3N would have been enough to overcome the majority of opponents.

Not saying mine is the "right" theory, but it's backed by more fact that the 2 listed in the Solaris 7 set, which sound more like people inflating the legend of the Legend Killer.

Though, If I had to choose one for 3025 Solaris dueling, I'd lean toward the RFL-3C, personally. Light ammo load is irrelevant in 1v1 duels, and having low heat, 10 pt ppfld shots is way better than "5 shot popguns" or Large Lasers so hot you can barely use them.
