I was thinking about what a waste of space hand actuators are in this game because they aren't implemented to do anything but take up space. And while I was thinking about this it occurred to me that a majority of clan mechs above light lack hand actuators, whereas hand actuators are very common in IS mechs.
Maybe a minor IS buff could make those hand actuators make a small difference, namely in climbing speed. Allow any mech (clan or IS) that has at least one hand actuator climb as though it were one weight category less to account for the hand assist in climbing steep inclines. Lights would gain the least, maybe a small boost to climb speed, but all the other mechs would benefit in increased agility and overall it would give a small but strategic boost to IS mechs particularly in maps like the canyon or alpine where climbing is pretty common, especially those that can't mount jump jets.
Don't know.. maybe it's a bad idea, but I would like to see that slot account for something other than decoration and I'm pretty sure PGI has no intention of implementing melee weapons like hatchets (hatchetman anyone?) or letting us use them in any meaningful way.

Maybe if they added hand held items in the game (shields and guns), it would make the hand actuators worth something.
Add a maximum weight that the hand actuator can hold (without adding weight to the build) and base this off the weight of the 'Mech (tons/10).
If you are holding a weapon/shield, you cannot fire any weapons in that arm.

Actuators (even useless ones) do take up space and are a good tool used to balance the mechs.
I'd like mine to flip the bird every time I die.....
Forums have been real glitchy lately. See lots of double and triple posts. Mine takes about 30 seconds every time I hit the like button, or when I quote someone, or when I post something (and often, all three so each post takes about 1:30).
I'd like mine to flip the bird every time I die.....

I noticed the same if someone is posting in the same thread as I do.
I imagine a crappy forum software in the background that only functions properly if only one person is posting in a thread at the same time and crappy data models with crappy SQL databases in the background that let operations take forever once the data amount is more than trivial.
Usual sight in the IT business.
